Blending White Heat Embossing with Ashli

Hi there! Ashli here to share some fun creative play with you. Embossing powders… Ah the choices, the colors, the textures…. What’s not to love?

One of my favorite things to do when working with all of these lovely powders is to blend them together while heating them. Let’s take a look, shall we?

My starting inspiration for this home decor piece is the amazing Kelly Purkey Home Sweet Home stamp set:

1

Isn’t that the cutest? I have put those little house images to good use and stamped them up on a sheet of watercolor paper. To add a little color, I simply washed a bit of watercolor and followed behind with some white paint highlights:

2

While that dries, we can begin our embossing adventure! I have selected a few of my favorite background stamps: Hero Arts Life of the Party Dots, Hero Arts Chevron, and Hero Arts Fabulous Flourish

3

Once I stamped with my Embossing Ink , I chose my “background” embossing color of Zing White. Any color will do here. Since I am going for a light and airy look, I am going to start with white:

4

With that heat set, let’s get ready to play! I find it easiest to get all of my chosen powders ready, with a little Craft Stick

5

Here is where it gets exciting! First, re-heat your embossing powder that is already on your stamped area. Then, while it is still nice and hot, take your first chosen color, in my case Zing Powder Blue, and sprinkle a bit on. The re-heated background color will allow the new color to stick.

6

And reheat! And repeat! Don’t be afraid here. The great thing about embossing powders is that they are opaque. Get too much in a certain area? Just go back over it with white. Have fun! You will notice that the colors will start to blend, making new colors and lovely shades.

7

And then just continue heating and repeating….

8

…until you have something you like! I added more of that Zing white and powder blue, along with Wow Pastel Yellow and Wow Angel Wings. And decided to call it done! You see all that powder around my desk? Yep, this does make a bit of a mess. I’ve never been one to worry about such things, but if that concerns you, you might want to try this inside a cardboard box.

9

Now what can we do with this sheet full of blended embossing fun? Cut out shapes to make houses, of course!

10

You could really cut or punch out any shape, use a piece as a card base, layer this up on a scrapbook page… the possibilities are endless! But, since I was inspired by those awesome house stamps, houses it is!

Once I layered up my paper pieces with some Elle’s Studio bits and placed that adorable little dog from October Afternoon, I added my sentiment from that same awesome stamp set and called it done! Well, after the usual misting and doodling and touches of washi.

I plan on framing this in a shadowbox frame and hanging it in my home, so I simply mounted the entire piece on a sheet of card stock, and tucked some scrap note paper around the edge to add some dimension:

Ah yes… Love lives here! I hope this has inspired you to look at your embossing powders in a new and different way. Remember to link up with our challenge this week.

I can’t wait to see what you make!
