The Grillfather

Hi readers! We’re back with an awesome tutorial from the one and only amazing Copic color-er, Sandy Allnock! I’m amazed at her skills with each and every video & tutorial! If you’re an expert or a beginner, Sandy has graciously provided 3 options of getting some cool smoke effects for your Grill father!

Enjoy!

I always love making cards for guys – I’m not much for flowers and butterflies but give me a shot at something funny for guys and I get all kinds of happy! The line of Everyday Hero stamps from Art Impressions are right up my alley! Fun to color, they make you laugh – and there are lots of options to have fun with them!

In the video, I promised you’d have the color list to color dad himself, so here you go:

I don’t know if your Father’s Day will require a call to 911 or a run in the house for the fire extinguisher – but whatever you’re up to, make it a great day! Leave me a comment below and let me know what your dad’s favorite thing to do is (or was) on his day!

  1. Wow! My mind is blow away with this coloring technique! Love it! Thanks Sandy for sharing this awesome technique!

  2. These are so good…I really like the one that looks like the BBQ blew up. My dad loves family near on Father’s Day. Of course if baseball is on…he is watching that…Detroit Tigers!!

  3. Love this!! I have the stamp and now I will know exactly how to create that smoke and fire. I got it for my son-in-law who is THE BEST at BBQing ever and I plan to make this card for his birthday in August. My dear hubs burns everything on the grill so it’s my duty in our home! Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. Fun video, and as always, I learned lots to improve my Copic coloring skills. Thank you! I hope your steak tasted as yummy as it looked.

  5. That is the cutest card, Sandy! Love that fun image! Thanks for all the different tips – your coloring amazes me! I especially love how you made dad glow! :)

  6. Enjoyed the video. Great tip on using the colorless blender refill and a paper towel. Thanks for sharing. (I like my steak med.)

  7. Love your coloring Sandy. Thanks for the tutorial. My Dad’s favorite thing was probably the kids art for him and silly things they put together for him to eat.

  8. Wow that was awesome!! I want to run right out and order that stamp and make it for Fathers Day!! Ha ha. My husband is a master grill chef and I think he’d get a kick out of this card!!

  9. What a great stamp and coloring! The smoke effects are awesome! I totally need to get some of these Art Impression stamps, they are hysterical! My Dad’s favorite thing to do is (well, he doesn’t love it but he does it for the kids lol) is go to the Strawberry Festival and get a big Old fashioned strawberry shortcake!

  10. This is a fantastic video! It gives precise instructions on how to create certain effects that can not only be used on this card but adapted for other effects on other images. Thank you!

  11. Isn’t Sandy the best? I love everything she does! I definitely fit into the beginner category for coloring, but she sure inspires me to give it a try :) I am making a grilling themed card for my dad for Father’s Day, and the Grillfather would look awesome as my main image!

  12. I’m the only female in a house o’ guys, so am always looking for guy-card ideas. Your card is just great! I like that it’s funny, too, because we’re not a mushy bunch :) Thanks for sharing your creativity! I’m off to go check out these stamps.

  13. I learned so much – I love how you did the clouds of smoke – which could certainly be used for a cloudy monsoon storm – or haboob! teak – I am not a fan of meat – it is about yukky to me! So I just covered my eyes during it! Big Fan of watching your technique of coloring!

  14. this image always cracks me up! reminds me waaaay too much of hubby when he’s grilling, but shhhhhh, don’t tell him I said that! ;)

sorry I haven’t been by in a while. since I’m not getting the feeds in my email anymore, I sometimes forget to pop by. they started back up for a bit, but then stopped again. hope it all gets fixed soon.

  15. Fabulous coloring and details on this card!
My Dad loved it when I baked him a special treat for Father’s Day. Lemon Meringue or Coconut Cream pies were a couple of his favorites, and I also made him Creampuffs a time or two!

  16. What a super fun card for birthdays, Father’s Day or just anything. I love your coloring. Thanks for sharing the video with us.

  17. Amazing smoke technique. Wowza!!! Dad’s fave thing on Father’s Day was having his family around him, I think. :)

  18. I learned how to make smoke!!!! I also loved the glowing yellow edges on dad reflecting the fire.
I have that stamp and will be getting it out this afternoon.

My steak is perfect if it’s medium rare . . . no blood.

  19. You are truly a copics black belt….it’s all in the details. You make it sound and look so-o-o easy!

  20. These cards and video are awesome! My dad liked to just relax on his day either watching a Cubs game on TV or go to a game if we could. A griller he wasn’t my Mom and I would be in charge of that department. I also married someone who can’t grill either I’m in charge of the grill and smoker oh well at least I enjoy it lol. I’m wishing a Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there we love you whether you can grill or not

  21. I like my steak medium rare. I have a grill son instead of father now.

The trick with blender solution on the paper towel really gave cool texture to the smoke clouds, making it look very realistic!
