Hello hello! I am so happy to be joining you today because it gave me a chance to play with the BasicGrey Leaf and Flourish stencil and share two fun techniques. As soon as I spotted it the first thing that popped into my mind was that it looked like my trusty red bandana! I love to wear it to protect my neck from the blazing Texas sun. Plus who doesn’t love a red bandana? :)
So let’s get started!
First I grabbed the stencil and placed it on a piece of scratch paper, then inked it up with Tim Holtz Festive Berries ink. You want to do this on scratch paper and not on a craft sheet like you might think, otherwise the ink will get in between the cut out parts.
Next I slid it off onto a craft sheet. Tip: by sliding the stencil off the paper you don’t get red fingers. Ha! Then I gave it a good mist with water. I trimmed a piece of paper to 4.25×5.5 inches and placed the paper over top, then pressed on it all over with my fingers. If you like, you can place a piece of scratch paper over top so you don’t get inky.
After it was dry I used the stencil as an embossing folder. This is super easy to do, and a great way to get more from your stencils! Just place a piece of felt down on your last plate, then put the paper on top, and line up the stencil over top of that followed by the top plate and run it through the machine. It doesn’t give as deep of an emboss as a true embossing folder but it’s still pretty nice!
To finish off the card, rounded the corners on the bandana piece, then cut two strips of patterned paper and sewed them on.
Next I heat embossed the hello message on a strip of navy paper. I think this really makes it pop!
I added some Sea Mixed Accents here and there and then popped the whole piece on the card front with foam dots for extra dimension.
