For the Love of Fall: Art Journal
Happy Saturday everyone! It’s Shari here with an art journal page featuring some of the new Tim Holtz Distress Sprays. I had an excellent time creating this entry and even did some experimenting to discover a new technique! I love it when I try something new and it works out!
I started off by using the Reverse Damask and Falling Leaves stamps using Antique Bronze Distress paint. Then I used die cut tissue paper leaves as masks. I added color by using the Tim Holtz Distress sprays which resisted the paints. Do you see the faint leaves in the background from the tissue paper?
I used a couple layering stencils with Distress paint for an additional layer, then stamped more leaves using Wendy Vecchis’ Potting Soil Archival Ink, love this color and that it can be used on top of all my layers of inks and paints.
To finish things off, I sprayed some die cut leaves and paint my canvas letters to match the feel of the background.
I shot a video of my complete process, I hope it inspires you to try something new!

Shari, this is a gorgeous and colorful journal page. I love how you are experimenting with the colors and leaves – they turned out beautiful. Your page has a lovely depth to it…now I’m off to experiment and create my own Fall journal page! Thank you so much for your inspiration.
This is seriously awesome! Love the masked technique used with the leaves. And the colors are just gorgeous! Thanks for the inspiration!
Great job! It takes a little confidence from experience to try something like this. But hey! If you don’t like it when it is done, the worst is just throwing it all away. It would be useful to diecut a less-than-liked sheet into leaves or mosiac if you didn’t like the overall look of it. I would be afraid that I would continue until it was too muddy. I guess that waiting for the layers to dry inbetween applications helps.
Wow! What a faboulous and gorgeous art! I love the mix of fall colors.
Amazing! The leaves look real! TFS .
Your art journal pages never cease to amaze me, Shari! I love all of the layers you achieve without making the whole page a muddy mess, which is what I sometimes end up with! The colors you used are gorgeous for this tribute to fall!
So gorgeous – love the leaves.
