For the Love of Fall: Art Journal

Happy Saturday everyone! It’s Shari here with an art journal page featuring some of the new Tim Holtz Distress Sprays. I had an excellent time creating this entry and even did some experimenting to discover a new technique! I love it when I try something new and it works out!

Shari Carroll Love of Fall 2

I started off by using the Reverse Damask and Falling Leaves stamps using Antique Bronze Distress paint. Then I used die cut tissue paper leaves as masks. I added color by using the Tim Holtz Distress sprays which resisted the paints. Do you see the faint leaves in the background from the tissue paper?

I used a couple layering stencils with Distress paint for an additional layer, then stamped more leaves using Wendy Vecchis’ Potting Soil Archival Ink, love this color and that it can be used on top of all my layers of inks and paints.

To finish things off, I sprayed some die cut leaves and paint my canvas letters to match the feel of the background.

I shot a video of my complete process, I hope it inspires you to try something new!

  4. This is a fabulous journal art page, thanks so much for the video to illustrate all those techniques with the sprays especially. Gotta get some of those!

  5. I love this project. The colors the design, everything just works so well. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us.,

  6. Shari, this is a gorgeous and colorful journal page. I love how you are experimenting with the colors and leaves – they turned out beautiful. Your page has a lovely depth to it…now I’m off to experiment and create my own Fall journal page! Thank you so much for your inspiration.

  7. Great job! It takes a little confidence from experience to try something like this. But hey! If you don’t like it when it is done, the worst is just throwing it all away. It would be useful to diecut a less-than-liked sheet into leaves or mosiac if you didn’t like the overall look of it. I would be afraid that I would continue until it was too muddy. I guess that waiting for the layers to dry inbetween applications helps.

  8. Your art journal pages never cease to amaze me, Shari! I love all of the layers you achieve without making the whole page a muddy mess, which is what I sometimes end up with! The colors you used are gorgeous for this tribute to fall!

  9. Love these colours, and those leaves look so real, this inspires me to go and try some ideas out myself. TFS!!!

  10. Love love love this. Watching you create these art journals is such a treat. I want to try these tissue paper leaves. How clever! Thanks so much for sharing your talents.

  13. How fun to let us watch “the experiment ” unfold! And a grand success it is! I love all of it, especially the crinkled leaves made of paper sacks. This is total inspiration and I thank you.
