Ahhhhh. Vacation!

Hi readers! Happy Wednesday! I couldn’t think of anything better to get us all through the ‘hump’ of the work week than some creative uses of Simon Says Stamp exclusives from the amazing & creative Debby Hughes!

Enjoy!

Hi there, it’s Debby here with a look at getting the most out of your supplies :D I had just returned from our family vacation when I broke into the new This is The Life release to make these cards and was heavily inspired by our holiday! Our last stop before flying home was a few days in the Florida Keys and as I flipped through the release (with a massive smile on my face I might add!) I spotted the paw print from the Pawprints On Our Hearts set. Hmmmm, those paw prints reminded me of little islands with the dotted line being a contour line! I stamped the paw print a couple of times in Green Apple ink on Neenah solar white card and trimmed out before running the cut edge along the ink pad to give a nice definition to each island – so great to get a totally different use out of this sympathy set.

The sea was created by inking a Neenah panel with Sea Glass ink using a Mini Ink Blending Tool and also adding a darker area where the islands were to rest in Audrey Blue ink; lots of soft gentle build up of the ink with plenty of blending :D The islands were then glued in place before stamping the compass from Life’s Journey in Smoke ink on the top left of the panel. I also stamped in Versamark on Vellum the Enjoy The Journey sentiment from the same set and white heat embossed it.

I have long hankered after a word die which would leave a great modern negative space and the Vacation Word Strips are just perfect! Great for scrapbooking but look equally cool on a card :D There are three words in the set and I cut the ‘vacation’ one from Slate card and mounted it over the vellum then added a few sequins to finish.

While I was in holiday mood I browsed through the release again and this time the popular and totally fabulous Waves stencil caught my attention. With the waves stenciled in tones of blue horizontally you get an awesome watery pattern …. with the waves stenciled in black vertically you get great Zebra stripes! To combine with my safari theme I went for an inked African sunset (Picked Raspberry and Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks) a gold heat embossed heart and a couple of wood veneer stars. From a watery stencil to a dry, sunset safari in a quick 90-degree turn and switch out of ink colour!

Well, that’s me for this month; I hope you enjoyed this little look at stretching your supplies. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Both cards are wonderful, but I have to admit that the first is my favorite one!!! I just LOVE it!
So clever use of both the paw stamp and the wave stencil, thank you for sharing!

  2. I’m sorta new to card making and it’s really cool to see how Debby and others can see the potential in product supplies. I’m going to start looking and turning all my supplies until I too, see it being used in many ways. So,if that doesn’t work out for me…..keep these vids comin at me!

  3. FUN pair of cards – CLEVER & COOL use of the Paw Prints Stamps and Waves Stencil – it is ALWAYS great to have alternate uses for crafty tools!!!
THANK YOU for sharing your CREATIVE INSPIRATION ladies!!!
… I think that the Simon Says Stamp Team is teaching me SO WELL … as soon as I saw Debby’s card I immediately thought Sea Glass and Audrey Blue :)

  4. Great cards! Very clever use of the paw print for the islands. I love the soft colors in the card as well.

  5. What a contrast between the two cards. They both look like vacation, just in different places :). Love how the islands were made, very clever.

  6. Love how you made the zebra stripes with the wave stencil and love your “happy” icon in your text!
