Altered ornament with Mona Pendleton

We hope you are having a very happy holiday week! We are taking a break from normally scheduled challenges, however our design team will be checking in with tutorials and projects to share! Enjoy!

Hi everyone, Mona here today to share a tutorial on how to create a crackled textured Christmas ornament. I love to create home made ornaments to give as gifts to friends or loved ones so I opted to alter a bare wooden sled ornament.

SSSDec2014Sled600

To begin, I applied a coat of Gesso to the ornament.

Once dry, apply coat of crackled texture paste.

While texture paste dries, die cut Tattered Pinecones and Pine sprigs using Tim Holtz Sizzix Tattered Pinecone die.

SSSDec2014Step3

Create pinecones, apply picket fence Distress Paint to both pinecones and Tidings Token followed with Diamond Dust to pinecones only. Apply peeled paint Distress Ink to pine sprigs.

SSSDec2014Step4

Apply antiqued bronze Distress Paint to sled runners and vintage photo and weathered wood Distress Inks to sled.

SSSDecStep5

Embellish with die cut shapes, bow and Tidings Token.
