Mixed Media Christmas with Meihsia

This week we’re taking a break from challenges – but we have a lot of inspiration lined up for you! Please enjoy the lovely creations and tutorials a few of the design team members are sharing this week!

Hi, everyone, Meihsia here today to share a tutorial of mixed media Christmas tree wall hanging for this holiday season. I’ve always loved fun and vibrant colors on my mixed media projects so this week, I decide to make a colorful mixed media Christmas tree to hang on my wall.

To start this project, I apply a layer of Heavy Gesso using a paint brush on the 12″ chipboard Christmas tree.

Tear some strips of patterned paper from Tim Holtz Paper Stash Seasonal and adhere these strips on the background of the Christmas tree using Heavy Gesso.

Add some textures with Tim Holtz Layering Stencils and Modeling Paste using a palette knife.

Arrange Tim Holtz Countdown Coins from 1 to 25 and adhere the coins on the tree with heavy structure gel. Use a Needle Tool to pierce holes to place the Fasteners to secure the Ornate Plate and baubles.

Apply Distress Stain around the edges of the Christmas tree to show the texture and dimension on the background.

Dab Distress Paint on the stenciled image and dry the background with a heat tool.

Rub a layer of Heavy Gesso on the Countdown Coins with fingers.

After the Gesso is dry, apply various Distress Paints on these coins. Dry the coin before applying another color of Distress Paint on it with a heat tool.

Add a final touch with some Distress Stain metallic shades randomly on the embellishments and background.

Now this mixed media Christmas tree is finished and ready to hang on the wall for the holiday.

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and got inspired to create something fun and beautiful for your holiday.

Happy crafting!
