Happy Sunday, all! Please give a big Simon welcome to our special guest blogger,
Anna-Karin Evaldsson! You may recognize her gorgeous work from our Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! Read on & enjoy!
Hello everyone! I (Anna-Karin) am happy to be here on the Simon Says Stamp blog today, with an art journal page using stamps by Darkroom Door together with Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Paint and Distress Crayons. Even though I made an art journaling page, the techniques in the tutorial work for a wide range of projects, for example, cardmaking, scrapbooking, and canvases.
I did an art journal page in my large Dylusions journal, inspired by memories from safari trips and by my youngest son who loves lions. Nature-themed pages are a favourite of mine and you’ll find lots of them in my different art journals. To create the scene, I used three of Darkroom Door’s lovely Wild Africa stamps sets, namely: Wild Africa Vol. 2, Wild Africa Vol. 3, and African Trees.
Start by coating a page with gesso using a palette knife and when it is dry, paint with slightly watered-down Distress Paints. Before the paint is completely dry, wipe some of it off with a paper towel.
Color him with Distress Crayons, smoothing the color out with your finger as you go along. Also add a shadow and a hill for him to stand on.
Stamp the main sentiment and two trees to the right of the lion. Don’t reink the tree stamp before stamping it the second time, so make the second impression look like it is standing further away. Stamp an antelope between the trees. Before stamping, wipe a tiny bit of ink off from the legs of the antelope, to make it look like it is standing in grass. Stamp another sentiment three times under the lion, without reinking in between.
Create hills by applying Distress Crayons to the page and smoothing them out with your finger.
Splatter black paint on the ground area of the page. I held a piece of scrap paper of the sky to avoid getting paint splatters there, since I wanted the ground to be more textured than the sky.
I love stamps depicting flying birds and this one from African Trees is great. Ink up just one or two of the birds to stamp in a few different locations on the background.
I also added two pieces of Design Tape to the page. It is a very quick and simple embellishment to add to an art journal page, and also totally flat.
The script stamping and splattered paint add texture to the background.
Glue the title to the background and add a piece of Design Tape underneath.
The Circle Loops die is a favorite of mine and I use it a lot. Circles are such a fun element to add to a project.
Thank you so much for watching and I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
Happy crafting!
Anna-Karin
