Summer School with Debby Hughes

SSS_summerschool_blog_header_2014

Hello and welcome to the last day of summer school! I can’t believe how quickly the past week went! We hope you enjoyed all of the inspiration and ideas that our amazing teachers shared all week! There were so many great ideas of fun ways to use the new Teacher’s Pet collection! I can’t wait to make lunchbox notes and teachers cards this year!

Before we say goodbye to another year of summer school, we have one more amazing teacher with us today. Please welcome Mrs. Debby Hughes to the class to share an awesome school themed project with you!

Hi, Debby here and so excited to be joining you today for Summer School! I’m delighted that my youngest son will have a male teacher for the coming school year so I wanted to give today’s project a masculine edge. The new Hey Teacher stamp set and Teacher dies were just perfect for keeping things clean and simple – just like the guys like, right?

The main focus of the card is a blackboard created using the new Frames dies from the recent This is The Life release. The Frames dies cut a centerpiece and also a great little frame edge too. I cut the smallest frame in the set from Khaki and Black card and white heat embossed the ‘World’s Best’ from Hey Teacher before giving it the chalkboard look with some Unicorn ink. The ruler from the Hey Teacher set is stamped in Memento tuxedo black, Copic colored and trimmed out and acts as a base for the fabulous Teacher die-cut, which was cut from Lipstick Red card. The Frames dies came into their own again to cut two patterned paper pieces to mat to the Khaki card base.

To accompany the card, I made two more frames and added one to a ruled Moleskine notebook and the other to a humorous book on children’s silly written mistakes (Blackboard Blunders). I must admit that the blackboard cover of this book drew me to it but it is also a fun read.

I can’t believe that the schools here go back in little over a week so I better crack on with all those jobs that need doing before then and getting the school uniform up to date is top of the list; I’m sure the summer sun makes them grow a few inches each year! Have fun and enjoy what’s left of your summer although if you are like me then secretly you look forward to the new school year and all those brand new jotters and cute stationary!

I actually made a video of my project, gasp I know LOL. I really should make more videos and I’m glad that for today I managed to get my act in gear. ;)

Summer School wouldn’t be complete without the chance to win some crafty school supplies, right!?

    1. Oh I so sorry to hear that school wasn’t pleasant for you. That’s a memory that doesn’t go away for sure. I can relate for most of my high school years. Enough said!

  3. Mega-watt smiles and incredibly appreciation guaranteed from the teachers who receive these awesome cards! Sooooo lovely and thoughtful! My favourite school memory was when I was a teacher, witnessing a budding romance between two students, beginning in Grade 11. Several years later, they tracked me down at another school I’d transferred to, to invite me to their wedding! She became a doctor; he a physio therapist – and they have four kids…and it all started in my English class. How awesome!!

  7. My favourite teacher was a very charismatic Scouser (liverpudlian) who changed my subject request form and moved me into his class for GCSE and persuaded me to continue with the subject to A-level, he taught me for 6 out of my 7 years at high school. It is thanks to him that I am now a master of engineering.

  8. Wow, love love love the card and can’t wait to win the prize! I haven’t thought about my school years in decades, so it’s hard to choose anything favorite, but I went to two Catholic high schools and just loved being taught by the wonderful nuns that made up the teaching staff. They were always so positive and inspiring.

  9. It’s been 28 years since I left school but I can still remember my favourite teachers and how they inspired me … My very favourite was a teacher from my first school who I coincidentally share a name with now, Mrs Morris!

Stunning card from Debby as always :)

  15. Wow ..Awesome cards ,I loved the chalkboard effect n teacher die-cut ! My favorite memory..holidays :D !! Nope first day of every class..SO much of excitement,eagerness..!!

  16. What a beautiful job you’ve done on this project! They’re perfect & the male teacher getting them is so lucky! I love your tip about the washi tape to hold the frame & black board panel together! Thank you!

My favorite memory from school is my Art Teacher—I had her from 6th grade to 9th grade. She believed in me & was such an inspiration to me! I truly appreciated her tender care, as I was a very insecure child! God Bless those teachers who truly care for our children! I’ll never forget Mrs. Lane!!!!! :)

  17. Fabulous projects from Debby and great to have some masculine style cards too. Overall I enjoyed my time at school but don’t have any particular favourite memories of it. Perhaps it’s just too long ago!

  18. Being a little ahead of the time (colored hair) in 1960-1963 us girls would put GREEN food coloring in our hair for St. Patrick’s,day. The high school counselor would greet us at the door and send us all, home to wash it out. We sure took our sweet time getting back to school. We did this all 4 yrs. on our Senior we greeted us on our 1st Day of school and said ” I hope you girls turned over a new leaf”. “oh yes”, we replied in unison. Then on St Pats day again we showed up,with green hair. Nowadays, the kids are spraying their hair all sorts of colors and it’s so cool!
Loved your card. It reminded me of a clipboard with papers attached to it. That male teacher is gonna love it!

  19. Such a gorgeous card!! Love the elegant chalkboard effect!

My favorite memory from school is when we had “special days” called “spirit week” (my kids did this at their school as well), but we dressed up on different days with a theme and got to do lots of fun games and challenges. It was so funny to see how the other kids were going to dress! :)

  20. Great projects! A favorite memory of mine was getting go home with a friend after school. It was always fun to get that note from your mom and then to ride a different bus home.

  21. my fav teacher in school was my radio broadcasting teacher, Miss Maria “Chi-Chi” Haywood. She was just awesome and inspired me.

  22. What wonderful and very thoughtful cards!!! My most favorite memory is when then boy who used to always pick on me and tease me came up to me on a dare and kissed me. I knew right then and there that he was the boy I was going to marry and be with for the rest of my life. We have been married for 29 years now! Best day ever!!!

  23. Another great card as Always. A favorite memory was my dutch teacher who I met again on after i graduated and he made compliments on my handwriting it had been improved.

  24. Debby,

Thank you for making a video! Your cards are always delightful. I especially love the 4 bar size. Too cute!!

  25. Remembering in grammar school (1950’s) doing an art project and using items from the kitchen to stamp impressions onto the paper. it was so much fun and colorful!

  26. I wish school would have been as much fun as this week has been. Lots of great ideas for future projects. I think I’ve said before that I really enjoyed learning shorthand. It was fun to be able to do something a lot of people couldn’t – great way to show up. :-)
    Thanks for a great week.

  27. My favorite memory from school is being the high school band and making Drum Major my senior year. We had a Blast! I love this card and will certainly try to replicate with my stash.

  28. Really cute card! My favourite memory from school is being part of the school band. Getting together regularly to practice we all became friends. We worked together as a team, even raising money for a trip across the country to another school.

  29. I think my favorite memory of school was graduation ;)
Hurray it’s over! I graduated with honors, tons of friends, and a huge sigh of relief. Ha.

Love this card. Teachers deserve a ton of honor for all they do. One of the hardest jobs out there.

  30. One of my favorite memories is being in a high school play. We needed a skunk so I brought a black kitten from home and we put talcum powder on his back for a white stripe…… well you can imagine how that turned out. The kitty was really good about the whole thing but he sure didn’t look very skunky. He loved all the attention he got from all the kids….. good thing he was so laid back. Love the card and teacher projects Debby!
