Masked Watercolor with FineTec Pearlescent Paints

Hello all! Kristina Werner here. Today I had so much fun creating a watercolor card using both traditional watercolors (American Crafts Paper Fashion Watercolors) and FineTec Pearlescent Watercolors

I started out by masking off six squares in a window pane pattern using masking tape. Then I wet each square with water and dropped in watercolors. After letting it dry, I added small areas of gold pearlescent paint.

Small patterns were stamped in three squares using images from the Hello Darling stamp set and then traced over using a white gel pen. I also added a thin lined border to the other squares.

To finish off the card, I cut the Take Care dies four times, stacked the die cuts, and adhered the greeting to the card.

Thanks for stopping by! :)

  1. Wow I so enjoy looking at this card! Love the dreamy and magical background, and the dainty white designs in each squares!

  2. This is sooo pretty! Love the design and love the colors. And you reminded me that I have some pearlescent watercolors … that have never been used! WHY?!! lol

  3. The development of this card was one of those where I was thinking yes……….no stop….yes.. no.. I liked the Hydrangea colour as is and I liked the three squares just plain, but in the end your finished card is perfect. So well done! I am one of those people with a love/hate relationship with white pens, but this card is so lovely that I am willing to try again.

  4. Kristina, this is such a lovely card…great color combo with the touches of gold. Thanks for sharing it and the video. Learned much from watching the step-by-step creation.

  5. My first words were “Oh, wow”. I love the patterns and the window pane effect. Gorgeous!

  6. This is gorgeous Kristina–and not super difficult. Don’t you have 1/4″ masking tape? You did a video earlier using that tape for a striped card, you so inspired me I bought some from Amaaon.

  7. Loved how you arrived at your finished project. You must have an engineering degree what with all the thought you put into the masking. It paid off, though, and thanks for the tips.

  8. Oh my!!! This card is so simply beautiful. It feels effortless and timeless … Absolutely gorgeous and incredible. I absolutely love this. Those gold shimmers and the white line edging … Everything comes together so well.

  9. Watched your video and thought your masking was very interesting making those perfect squares. Love the watercolor choices and your steady hand with the white gel pen. Beautiful card.

  10. Beautiful card! Thanks for sharing how you made it! Loved how you got the perfect suares!

  11. Gorgeous! I absolutely love pearlescent/metallic watercolours and have been eyeballing those Finetec paint sets for awhile myself! I love what you did with them!

  12. Very pretty and nice to see paints being used, although I’ve not heard of these before and sort of want them now. x

  13. So pretty! I love how the layered sentiment and the gold paint really pop against the soft colours. ☺️

  14. Love the look of that card. The gold is great little touch and the bit of white spread over the 6 boxes, is great.

  15. Very elegant card design Kristina. I love the beautiful colours and the hand drawn accents, that’s a great idea.
Thank you so much for showing your inspiration. Have a great weekend.

  16. I love your card Kristina! Not only the background is dreamy but the stamping on top is fabulous as well!TFS
