Foiling Techniques!

Hi everyone, it’s Shari here with some fun foiling techniques to use on your cards.

I thought I’d take this opportunity to show you a few was to use thermal foils from Thermo Web and Heidi Swapp with a laminating machine ( I used my small Minc) and a quick non thermal technique with a glue stick.

My first example uses thermal foiling.  Thermal foiling is a process of using a reactive foil with a heating element machine such as a laminator or Heidi Swapps Minc machine.

I was thrilled when I found Toner Sheets from Thermo Web where I could use my die cuts and foils! Talk about exciting! This card also uses a double foiling technique and some black foil on a die cut.

Have you tried foiling with a glue stick to create a quick background? It’s really easy! For this I used the regular Vintage Foil from Ranger.

I also traced the circles of a stencil with the Heidi Swapp Minc toner pen to create a background on a die cut heart.

I have put together a video explaining how to use a laminating machine and also show you how to do that quick glue stick and foil background. You can watch the video below or on our YouTube channel.

  1. Gorgeous cards! I didn’t know you could use foils with a glue stick -I was given some foils a while back that I’ve never used so I’m gonna give that a go :)

  2. Ok Shari…the enabler…I so didnt want to get on the foiling bandwagon. I was scared that the foil would scratch and look ugly. You say is does Not scratch…so therefore, I’m changing my mind in this new year 2016. I want my foiling bandwagon to drop me off in front of Hobby Lobby or Joanns or even Michaels. My birthday is next month and the mind machine will be on my birthday wish list for the hubs. Lucky me.

  3. Shari, this is a beautiful card! I love all of the ways you used the foiling. I can’t afford a machine, but I can’t wait to try the glue stick/pen technique! TFS with us today.

  4. Your cards are beautiful and I’m excited to learn of the non-thermal foiling technique. Love that look!

  5. Beautiful cards. I love how the heart turned out!! I’ve resisted the foiling urge, but I expect I’ll be wanting to try it really soon. Thanks for the inspiration!

  6. Ready to splurge on a Minc, seeing these cards has finally convinced me:-) Now just waiting for the mini to get back in stock!!
