Doodling with Debby: Simply Stamped Tropic Leaves
Hi friends! Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the latest edition of Doodling with Debby starring the always fabulous Debby Hughes who made a super on-trend pair of beautiful cards that are really giving me those sunny day vibes! Be sure to watch the video and enjoy!!
Hi, it’s Debby here for my monthly Doodling With Debby video feature here on the Simon Says Stamp blog. Today I’m all about the leaves with two cards based on the same design idea and both using the Tropical Leaves and Big Greetings 1 stamp sets.
Monstera leaves are proving to be particularly popular and trendy at the moment, be they the actual plant grown at home or used as in stationery, pattern design, and fabrics. There’s a lovely Monstera leaf in the Tropical Leaves set from Simon Says Stamp and I chose to pull out my green inks and get stamping! I picked Beanstalk Green, Green Leaf, Evergreen and Seafoam inks and used them to stamp four leaf images multiple times. I then used the matching dies to die cut the leaves.
For the sentiments, I used the Big Greetings 1 stamp set and stamped the sentiments on Slate card with Clear Embossing Ink, before sprinkling with White Embossing Powder and heat setting. I trimmed the sentiments to a banner and foam mounted them on a panel of white card cut with a Wonky Rectangle die.
With one card, I arranged the leaves spraying out from behind the banner and with the other card, I used the leaves coming in from the edges of the panel to frame the sentiment. In each case, I kept the leaves in place with foam adhesive.
I then attached the panels to top folding white card bases cut from Neenah Solar White 110lb weight card and embellished with Butterfly Kisses sequins. These cards were so simple to put together and yet I think they provide a big punch. Also, green is my favorite color and I’m always partial to a nice leaf!
Thanks for joining me today and I’ll see you next time for Doodling With Debby.

Love what you did with the die cuts! and the big words. Ink colors are pretty, too!
All the lush greens are looking great together.
Gorgeous cards! Love them :)
Great design!
I didn’t think I would like the second as well as the first. (I hadn’t really looked at the pictures before watching the video.) As it turns out, the second was my favorite. I really like those trimmed down leaves. Brilliant!
Cute cards!
What beautiful tropical cards Debby!
I really like the arrangement on both cards! I struggle with that.
Hi Debby. Loved your tropical leaf cards. Thanks so much for sharing. It’s nice sometimes to have a more monochromatic card and the greens were just great and super for a masculine card too. TFS.
Love the layering of this card and the colors – TFS
OMG! Love, love, love these cards! Green is my favorite color and these cards are just perfect.
Beautiful. Love both arrangements. Such a different look. Hugz
Love these Debby! Quick, but beautiful and elegant cards.
