Debby's Doodles

Hi, it’s Debby here for my monthly Doodling With Debby video feature here on the Simon Says Stamp blog. Today I’m all about the leaves with two cards based on the same design idea and both using the Tropical Leaves and Big Greetings 1 stamp sets.

Monstera leaves are proving to be particularly popular and trendy at the moment, be they the actual plant grown at home or used as in stationery, pattern design, and fabrics. There’s a lovely Monstera leaf in the Tropical Leaves set from Simon Says Stamp and I chose to pull out my green inks and get stamping! I picked Beanstalk Green, Green Leaf, Evergreen and Seafoam inks and used them to stamp four leaf images multiple times. I then used the matching dies to die cut the leaves.

For the sentiments, I used the Big Greetings 1 stamp set and stamped the sentiments on Slate card with Clear Embossing Ink, before sprinkling with White Embossing Powder and heat setting. I trimmed the sentiments to a banner and foam mounted them on a panel of white card cut with a Wonky Rectangle die.

With one card, I arranged the leaves spraying out from behind the banner and with the other card, I used the leaves coming in from the edges of the panel to frame the sentiment. In each case, I kept the leaves in place with foam adhesive.

I then attached the panels to top folding white card bases cut from Neenah Solar White 110lb weight card and embellished with Butterfly Kisses sequins. These cards were so simple to put together and yet I think they provide a big punch. Also, green is my favorite color and I’m always partial to a nice leaf!

  1. Your cards just mentally transported me to tropical paradise, now I wish it was for real. Lovely cards.

  2. Beautiful tropical themed cards. We have friends who live in Hawaii and I’m always looking for inspiration for cards for them. Thanks!

  3. After a beastly long winter, anything tropical is like heaven. I love them all and the greens are gorgeous. Nicely done.

  4. Love the card designs and the colors used. Beautiful inspiration as always from Debby. Lots of possibilities for this type of design with other leaf and floral stamps, giving us the chance to use some of our stash! :) Thanks, Debby!

  5. I love how fresh the greens look on these cards, and the font on these sentiments is fantastic – I’m a big fan of these SSS sentiment sets! Thanks for sharing and inspiring!

  6. Gorgeous card Debby, I love that you also used a 4e colour, the seafoam, it make it for me, more tropical. Thank you for your great tutorial.

  7. These are gorgeous. They look like they were made from some really upscale wrapping paper. I love the colors you chose and that you used a dark grey strip instead of black for the sentiment. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Inspirational as always!! Love your work Debby. These greens are so refreshing and perfect for spring

  9. These are lovely! I love leaves, and these card designs rock them. The leaf frame on the “congrats” card gives off a jungle vibe, which isn’t usually my thing, but it looks great here. I really like the cluster beneath the sentiment on the “hooray” card—something about the more airy feel there really appeals to me. The greens are so fresh and varied, they reawaken my desire to collect all the green inks!
