Delightful amongst the Frightful

When it comes to -holiday stamping, one thing I like to do is find fun ways to play with a lot of inks and colors while creating unique gifts and cards for my loved ones. May Flaum here, and today I’m excited to share with you some snowflake covered fun! With two Frozen obsessed girls here, I decided this holiday season I will be doing lots with snowflakes.

The first thing I like to do is to use white embossing powder to stamp and heat set an image or sentiment.

After you’ve heat set your image, begin stamping in various colors. I recommend an ink like distress ink that will easily rub off the embossed area and not stick.

What I love about this is you get dimension right from the start. I love doing this on gift tags and gift wrap as well as cards. Just keep stamping, and don’t worry about that embossed image in white.

Once you’ve got enough stamped images in various colors, come back with a foam blending tool and softly add light colors. Start from the embossed image so that it is the most vibrant and gives contrast under the image to help it pop.

I stuck to shades of blue, but you could create with any variety of colors! Once satisfied with your coloring the fun can really begin! What I love about having a motif like snowflakes is that I can then add different products to add in texture and dimension! I die cut (from vellum) some snowflakes, used some sequins, and also brought in some stickles and gems to finish things up.

I love how this turned out, and how much fun I had! I often work onto cards like this when creating with some  new products and ideas, then branch out into other projects.

  1. Great idea! I think you could let the kids help on stamping snwflakes once the embossing is on. Really vibrant finished card.

  2. Pretty card and thanks for sharing! I am also making a blue snowflake-themed Christmas card and I love these ideas!

  3. I have been wondering how I could create some lovely flat Christmas cards with my stamps so thank you very much May – I will be CASE’ing your lovely card with the stamps and inks I own. However I LURVE that large snowflake stamp and those lovely shades of blue too! Thanks for sharing, already subscribe Karen x

  4. Lovely card and great idea. I was struggling with a card I had embossed and couldn’t get it right. This gives me an idea of how to finish it. It will look nothing like yours but the technique will work and maybe, save the day! :) Thanks!

  5. Thanks for the inspiration. I’ve been toying with the idea of using blue, and snowflakes on my cards this year. Great ideas, using more than one media is right up my alley. Your work is very unique.
