Thank you for joining us for the Red/White/Blue Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is

FLORA AND FAUNA

Definition: Flora is plant life; fauna refers to animals. The handiest way to remember flora and fauna is that “flora” sounds like flowers, which are part of the plant world, and fauna sounds like “fawn,” and fawns are part of the animal kingdom.

You can choose Flora and/or Fauna.

We are welcoming the super talented Aida Haron  in the Designer Spotlight this month. If you haven’t visited Aida’s lo then you are in for a real treat!

 Aida  made this gorgeous canvas

Aida01

This Monday’s challenge for Red/White/Blue immediately gave me ideas and being the 4th of July, I wanted to create a project to wish friends and everyone in the US crafting community a Happy Fourth !! I used a flat back 6x8in canvas with the Sizzix the Tim Holtz Postage Stamp Frame, the center cut out with the the largest Rectangle Movers and Shapers Repositionable die. The Tim Holtz Correspondence Journal cards were the perfect size to fill the project and the elements included a die-cutGlitter paper heart, and Ideaology metal star as well as Journal pieces.

Andrea included red, white and blue in her USA-themed card and decided to create three colorful bonus tags, too.

IMG_0213

I always think of the US (land that I seriously do love) when I hear “red, white, and blue,” so I used Tim Holtz’s United States thinlits die as my focal point for my card and tag trio.  I incorporated a lot of reds/pinks and blue/teals in my card and for all of my projects, I added patterns and designs using IndigoBlu’s Calculus stamp, Rain Droplets stamp, and Rugged Edge stamp.

Anna-Karin had fun turning the IndigoBlu Periodic Table of Elements into a hill.

good_day_to_smile-Layers-of-ink

I enjoyed making a little summer scene on a glossy tag, using mainly stamps from the IndigoBlu Clumber Park set, which are perfect for scenic stamping. I managed to stick to only red, blue and white, with the addition of a tiny bit of beige. The stamping was done with Red Geranium Archival Ink and Simon Says Stamp Soft Navy. The sentiment comes from the new Uplifting Thoughts stamp set by Simon Says Stamp. I thought it fitted well with the dog stamp. For dogs, almost every day is a good day to smile.

Barbara loves this color combination and used  Indigoblu Stamp Crackleglaze for the star.

redwhitebluesimonA

I couldn’t choose just one color of these three because together  they are fabulous! Even though I’m  Italian, I love to create a project each year for July 4, this time I wanted to test myself with the fabric! I chose the wonderful Indigoblu Stamp “Crackleglaze” to create  my star, cut with Sizzix Tim Holtz die 3-D STAR BRIGHT. Substrate sheets in brown color ,Textile surfaces in blue color and Tim Holtz stencil “Stars” for the background, Eclectic element and various Idea ology strings and ribbons for the rest of my piece!

Cathie created a wall hanging to celebrate the 4th of July.

final with wood

I created my wall hanging using IndigoBlu Tasty Textures and Ink Splat Butterfly stamps and my sentiment was created using the Tim Holtz Alpha Grunge background stamp. I added some Idea-ology Souvenir Adornments and Number Tokens attached to a metal chain link and hung those from the Tim Holtz Display Hanger. To finish off my display, I added some Tim Holtz Mirrored Stars to the display hanger.

Cheiron create a tag perfect to tie on a 4th of July treat for her favorite pups using Indigo Blu Dukes Gang stamps.

cheiron- red white and blue tag_

I created my tag this week using some cork textured surfaces as a base and spraying with them with Distress Stains in Mermaid Lagoon and Candied Apple.  I used the same stains to color in my Reverse Confetti Happy Pretty Panels die and stamped it with a sentiment from the Whole Lotta Happy set. I then added these cute little pups from the Indigo Blu Duke’s Gang stamps, watercolored in using Distress Inks in Mermaid Lagoon and Candied Apple.

Emma created a celebration of the 4th of July using IndigoBlu’s Limor Circles stamp set to create the background.

RedWhiteBlueEmma

I love creating backgrounds and for this challenge I found the perfect set of stamps to work with for my 4th of July panel! I started with a piece of canvas paper and stamped the circles from the Limor Circles stamp set across the centre. I painted the circles with PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Snowflake paint for the white areas and then, Festive Berries and Chipped Sapphire Distress Paint for the red and blue. I also added a touch of gesso into the coloured circles. I then completed my background with Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Distress Paints to create a vintage look before layering die cut metal Stacked Stars, embossed with the Tiny Stars Texture Fade, vintage Ephemera pieces, a beautiful image from the Occasions Found Relative set and to complete the panel, a Letterpress number.

Kath loves butterflies and created a garden themed tile.

IB1

I covered the chipboard tile with a thick layer of white gesso and while it was still wet laid down the die cuts from Sizzix/Tim Holtz Mixed Media Thinlits. Once it was dry I pounced on more gesso with a paper towel to create a stippled whitewashed garden wall effect. I applied a coat of Distress Collage Medium Matte over the tile and coloured the die cuts with the Chipped Sapphire Distress Crayon rubbing it in to the detail with my finger and smudging to create a softer look. I added Wildflower Thinlits die cuts and used the Faber Castell Walnut Brown Big Brush Pen to create shadows around the die cuts. I stamped the butterflies from the Indigo Blue Floral Fantasty Stamp set on to Ranger Watercolor Paper with Black Archival Ink and coloured with Candied Apple and Chipped Sapphire Distress Markers using Ranger Detailer Water Brush and added highlights with the Signo Uniball White Pen. I cut them out and fixed the first layer of butterflies with Distress Collage Medium Matte, fixing the second layer with a spot of  Glossy Accents on the body section only to create dimension. I stamped the sentiment on to SSS black card with Versamark ink and heat embossed with Ranger Super Fine White Embossing Powder, cut out to create individual word tiles. I used the Walnut Brown Faber Castell Pen to add shadows around the butterflies and sentiment and added splatters using Black Soot and Picket Fence Distress Spray Stains. I coloured Idea-ology Crinkle Ribbon with Candied Apple Distress Spray Stain and created a double bow, finishing off with a twine bow. I used the Black Soot Distress Paint Dabber to colour the edge of the tile.

Lols made a 4th of July card using an Indogoblu Tasty Textures Background Stamp

DSC03577

One of these days I will go to the US during the 4th of July celebrations, I am sure the atmosphere during the parades would be amazing! I made this card to wish all of my friends on the other side of the pond a vey Happy 4th July! I used some Corrugated Card for the base and then splattered some Watercolor Paper with London Blue and White Linen Inks. I stamped the stripes with Hero Arts Red Royal ink and then coloured the Stacked Stars with Faded Jeans Paint and London Blue ink before sprinkling with Blue Glitter. I die cut a Star using Burlap and then aded a few splurges of Gesso before adhering the Small Talk Stickers to finish

Macarena will always remember using Indigo Blu Dinkie Poppy Stamp

DSC00375

I covered the tag with White Gesso randomly and unevenly. After that I applied the gesso through the Mini Tiny Circles stencil. I wet the surface, put Red and Blue Ecoline letting it spread upright over the tag. When the colors seem to be too strong I apply my favorite smoothing Dylusions Paint White Linen. I love the effect it gives  when I feel I have exaggerated with colors. When the paint was still wet I sprinkled Black Embossing Powder randomly and melted it with a heat tool. I used Black Marble Dylusions Paint and the White Linen as well to make the ink splats. As a background element I chose the Ring Frame (thanks Sandra!) As a focal point I used the Indigo Blu Dinkie Poppy stamped softly with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink and watercolored with the same color. After that to get the result even more soft, I applied White Linen Dylusions Paint over the flower as well. Finally I placed the Big Chat Stickers and embellished the flower with Clustered Leaves (thanks Sandra!) and some red sequins.

Maura is celebrating the Fourth of July with the beautiful Indigo Blu Plume stamp set by Limor Webber.

RWB

With our red, white and blue theme, I knew I wanted to work in my art journal with lots of paint, so pulled out my Dylusions London Blue and Postbox Red, as well as Paper Artsy’s Inky Pool and Autumn Fire. Don’t forget the white, and for that I used Dina Wakley’s Heavy Body White. I had fun doing some mark making with Paper Artsy’s EEA02 set and trying out my Ranger Texture Tools for the first time.

Meihsia was inspired to created a mixed media tag using Kibble Pups Stamp with red, white and blue colors.

Meihsia Liu simply paper crafts mixed media tag indigoblu Simon says monday 600

I really love this adorable Kibble Pups stamp from IndigoBlu, so after stamping and embossing it using Colorbox black ink and clear embossing powder, I colored the image with Sakura Watercolor. Some Index Labels and sentiment stickers were adhered to decorate the tag.

Sandra made a holiday project with the Splattered Heart stamp from Indigo Blu

IMG_5434
These colors are so dramatic, and I find them difficult to work with. But I love a challenge, and I’m so happy with the way it turned out. I’ve used Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire, Canded Apple and Fired Brick Distress ink to make my background. With the Stars stencil I created some interest. The Globe thinlit die is perfect for this project!

So now it’s YOUR turn to get out your inks, paints and all things arty and start creating! We are looking forward to seeing what you make!

Tic Tac Toe Designer Spotlights + Winner

designer-spotlight

We have 5 artists in the Designer Spotlight for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge!

#7 Alexandra Wirtz - Sandra says:  What a gorgeous card! The background is amazing, and I love the step-by-step of how it came together. It’s so dramatic with the theatre theme! Love it!

#40 Cassandra D.- Cheiron says: This card from Cassandra totally rocks! I love everything about it from the inking to the die cuts to the vibrant colors. So fun!

#45 Larisa - Maura says: There is something about Larisa’s sea-themed ATC that catches my eye and pulls me right in. Maybe it is the lovely blues, or the trio of seahorses, or sea turtle swimming by – I feel like I am under the water with them! I love how she created the plants in the background using embroidery thread and sewing to make a beautiful underwater scene!

#116 Donna - Kath says – such a simple design but it all comes together perfectly…love the addition of the colourful washi tape.

#147 Lou - Cathie says:  I love the peaceful scene Lou created on dictionary pages. She framed her scene with beautiful wisteria and gorgeous sunflowers to draw the eye into the peaceful mountain setting that she created using stamps. Her use of sprays and stencils to create the sky over the mountains continues the peaceful vibe to this amazing project. I want to jump right onto the page and stay for a while.

This is Alison’s last week with us in the Designer Spotlight. We would like to say a huge thank you for all of your creations over the past month. It has been a great pleasure to have you along with us!

Alison  I took the Tic Tac Toe diagonal of Stamp-Stencil-Spray and played in one of my favourite altered book art journals.

SSS Tic Tac Toe-2

The lush meadow is created with lots of layers, from the Wildflower Stencil inked in Peeled Paint Distress Ink, to multiple stamping with the Tim Holtz Twigs and Dried Flower stamps, and then some of the Wildflower Thinlits over the top, altered with embossing powder.  I used the Blossom Layering Stencil with Ranger Transparent Matte Texture Paste to add my cloudy blossoms at the top, and heat-embossed them with off-white powder, before spritzing around them with Tumbled Glass and Stormy Sky Distress Spray Stains.  The Layered Dragonfly was made with a layer of embossed acetate so he is mouldable and catches the sunlight, as does the Large Butterfly Punch at the foot of the Found Relatives Occasions vintage photo.  A couple of Small Talk sentiments and lots of inky shading and splatter finish the pages off.  I’ve had a wonderful time here this month – thank you so much for having me!

Andrea went with a stamp, cardboard, washi combo to create a fat little notebook.

IMG_0164

In all my days of crafting, this is the very first tic tac toe challenge I’ve ever done!  And I loved it!  Thanks, Maura, for the clever bingo grid and for helping me create something I never would’ve thought of otherwise.  I used some of my favorite new Tim Holtz stamps for the background, namely Halftone and Rings and Sideshow, along with a great little stamp set from Hero Arts called My Words.  And I think I’ve established that I would never last long without my hand-dandy book-binding Cinch tool!

Anna-Karin went with the first row: sequins, gold and stamps.

take_note-Layers-of-ink

I like to make notebooks and thought the Tim Holtz Evolution stamps were perfect for a notebook cover. The notebook itself was made from Dina Wakley’s Media Boards. Idea-ology metallic pieces, such as a Gadget Gear, were coloured with Gold Alcohol Ink Mixative. I also coloured some sequins the same way.

Barbara this week works with her favorite products!

For our TIC TAC TOE I chose a diagonal line: stamp, stencil and spray! I created a mini canvas with black background , I love  the contrast with bright colors! Tim Holtz stamps HALFTONE AND RINGS and Dylusions paints for the colorful  background,  Tim Holtz mini stencil set 8  helped me to give some lights in my project with  the white Texture paste! I used Tim Holtz’s  Butterfly  and  Distress sprays as watercolors to color it! I utilized the wonderful stamp  Brave by Seth Apter   and Tim Holtz Sizzix Die Believe (obviously a little bit changed!) to create  my sentiment!

Cathie decided to try a little doodling along with some of her favorite stamps.
Bingo Final
The spray, doodle and washi combination was one I wanted to try. I love to doodle and I have to admit, I spent most of my time in class doodling instead of taking notes when I was a kid. I used Dyan Reaveley’s Fancy Florals and Background Love stamp sets to get the doodling started and then added my own doodles. The adorable little bird is from Dina Wakley’s Scibbly Small Birdies stamp set and painted with Paper Artsy Fresco Finish paints. I love birds and they always make me smile which led to the sentiment I chose for my mixed media panel. I used Dyan Reaveley’s Dy’s Alphabet stamp set for part of the sentiment.

Cheiron chose her favorite combo of spray, stencil and stamp.

Cheiron Brandon- Keep Some Room tag

I decided to break out Tim’s Crazy Cats this week to create a fun tag. I created the base of my page with Distress Spray Stains in Tumbled Glass and Peacock Feathers. I “stamped” onto my tag using a stencil from the Mini Stencil Set 7 using Blueprint Sketch Distress Spray Stain. I added some Crazy Things (tie and sunnies) and a Numbers remnant rub and a quote band colored in with a picket fence Distress Crayon then tied on with linen ribbon.

Emma felt adventurous and decided to go for a full house!

TicTacToe

The combinations for this challenge are limitless but this week I felt adventurous and decided to go for a full house, creating a tile panel using all nine options! I started with a piece of watercolour card and spritzed the moistened card with Broken China Distress Spray Ink and Gold Foil Color Bloom Spray, letting the spray drip and run around the cardstock. I then added Tissue Tape to my background before stamping with the Type stamp and applying Texture Paste through the Tim Holtz Herringbone Layering Stencil. Once dry, I spritzed over the top with some more sprays and added highlights of paint to create a shimmer to the background. I used the Tim Holtz Sand & Sea die to die cut cardboard and added these together with Wildflowers, die cut from gold metallic kraft core cardstock. As a finishing touch, I added a scattering of sequins from the 28 Lilac Lane Minty Fresh Embellishment Bottle and doodled around the edge with a black pen.

Kath chose the bottom line to create an art journal page with lots of doodling and washi tape on a spray background

DSC_0003

I covered the pages with a layer of White Gesso and spritzed with Hickory Smoke Distress Stain Spray, spritzed with water letting it run and do it’s own thing, then patted with a paper towel to lighten up the colour. I stamped the images from Hero Arts Friend Collage randomly over the background using Hickory Smoke Distress Ink and Ranger Wendy Vecchi Orange Blossom Archival Ink. I then applied lots of  Idea-ology Tissue Tape and covered the surface with Distress Collage Medium. I stamped Hero Arts Painted Poppy with Ranger Wendy Vecchi Tea Rose Archival and the small flower image from Friend Collage with Sky Blue Archival on to white cardstock and used a Fine Black Liner Pen to doodle around the edges and in the centres of the blue flowers, cut them out and fixed to the page. I coloured strips of white card with Orange Blossom and Sky Blue Archival using the direct to paper method and doodled the sentiment with the Black Fine Liner Pen, cut them out and fixed to the page. I used the Black Soot Distress Marker and Detailer Water Brush to create shadows around the flowers and tissue tape and added Ranger Black Enamel Accents to the large flower and some circle rub-ons I found in my stash.

Lols  used the sequins/stencil/washi diagonal

DSC03499

I was going to try for the full house but chickened out *wink*. I used a Tim Holtz Baby Blueprints Stroller to make this card and made an envelope to go with it. I started by blending Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and then stencilled Falling Hearts over the top. I splattered Lindy’s Gang Hibiscus Rose and Creme Brûlée over the top, I also used the Hibiscus Rose for colouring the pram. I finished with a few Gold Sequins and String and a strip of washi tape to finish.

Macarena‘s choice is Spray-Stencil-Stamp (with some doodling)

DSC00354

The whole work is done on a heavy watercolor paper covered randomly with white gesso and with little dots made with the Mini Tiny Circles. The same stencil is used on the butterflies‘ wings but only touched with a Hickory Smoke Distress Ink. The butterflies are cut out and partly glued to make a very 3D effect. I love to play with sprays on wtercolor paper and gesso. The crazy effects are so inspiring that I just can’t stop! I spried some pink shades with Lindy’s  Spray (Salt Water), Dylusions Ink Spray (Cherry Pie) and lastly add some Bubble Gum Paint and Magicals Powder (Raspberry Lemonade). The glitter grey is made with Lindy’s Spray (Midnight Rendezvous). After have all that dry, I gentle smoothed it with White Dylusions Paint and I stamped the Out Loud text randomly and doodled with Black Chaleleon.

Maura is playing high fashion bingo.

TicTacToe

I am probably the last person to ask for fashion advice unless you might be asking me about color, but Dina Wakley makes it so easy to be a fashionista with her Silhouetted Women stamps. Pair a lovely lady with a great script background like the one from Paper Artsy Hot Picks, dyed in Simon Says Stamp High Dive and Jellybean inks, and topped off with Tim Holtz’s Cracked Pistachio distress ink, and I think we are ready for the runway. Oh, I can’t forget some blitz and bling with 28 Lilac Lane French Quarter and Heidi Swapp Gold Lame, and now she is ready to step out!

Meihsia created a mixed media tag using stamps, stencils and sprays.

Meihsa Liu Simply paper crafts mixed media tag simon says stamp monday challenge 600
I really had fun creating this mixed media tag using Distress Sprays over Tim Holtz Stencil Valentine on the background. There are text patterns stamped with Perfectly Stamper Anonymous on the tag. I adhered some metal embellishments and Prima Flowers using Tombow Mono Glue.

Sandra went for sequins-stencil-washi combo

IMG_5417
Had so much fun with this challenge. I’ve started with creating the background of the tag. With Frayed Burlap and Broken China I’ve build up the first layer to create a sandy beach scene. Then I’ve used the Ringer stencil and went over it with the same Distress colors. The whimsical beach house is from Simon Says Stamps newest release Amongst the Stars. It’s one of Suzy’s Sizzling Water Color Paintable Prints. I’ve colored it in with Prima Water Color Pencils. The look was a bit to bright so I went over it with Antique Linen Distress Ink.

Zoey choose the trio Blue/Stencil/Cardboard and made this tag

Mixed-Media-TAG_Zoey_Srapsaurus_SimonSaysStamp

I used a bunch of Distress Paint in the range of blue green and yellow to create my backrgound, then I used two stencils by Tim Holtz…and of course the base of my tag was cardboard! I used a sizzix die to cut my tag shape from the cardboard. as always to finish it off I used a stickers from the Tim Holtz ideaology stickers sheets.

So now it’s YOUR turn to get out your inks, paints and all things arty and start creating! We are looking forward to seeing what you make!

Alison  made a mini album using empty toilet rolls and patterned papers

SSS Patterned Paper

Like most crafters I’ve got a hoard of patterned paper which I take out and stroke, but rarely use!  I’ve broken into it to make a mini-album with the Tim Holtz Wallflower Paper Stash and some empty toilet rolls.  There are Photobooth photos and collages inside made using the Idea-ology Pocket Cards and some other paper snippets, and I’ve added metal embellishments – a Timepiece on the cover; File Tabs on the pull-out pages, altered with Fresco paints and Treasure Gold,  and Muse Tokens, Foliage and Philosophy Tags in the collaging.  Come over to Words and Pictures for a proper look inside.

Andrea made some tart tin medals with a plethora of patterned paper pieces.

IMG_0080

Maybe I should still be in elementary school, but if I ever get any sort of badge or medal, I smile and walk a bit taller.  Hoping my friends feel the same way, I made some medals for them that celebrate their talents and characteristics.  The metal part of the medals are made from smashed tart tins and the patterned paper “ribbons” are made from some of my favorite current collections: Webster’s Pages’ Painted Passport, Bo Bunny’s Believe, Lawn Fawn’s Perfectly Plaid and Shimelle’s Starshine.

Anna-Karin prepared an album ready to be filled with summer memories.

Summer_album-Layers-of-ink

Last year, I made a mini-album with our summer photos, and I wanted to do the same this year, with a 6 x 8 Echo Park album as my base. I used Kaisercraft Story Book patterned paper to decorate the cover, and prepared inserts for many of the pages, also including paper by Prima, from the Vintage Emporium and French Riviera pads. Simon Says Stamp sentiment stamps were used for both the cover and the inside pages, such as the new Uplifting Thoughts set, from the Among the Stars release.

Barbara let herself fascinate by the blue of this  patterned paper!

patternedsimonA

Blue is definitely, next to the green, one of my favorite colors! This color  is for me synonymous of  elegance and this word perfectly matches with  Dapper Paper Stash by Tim Holtz.  I chose to cover  a Mini clipboard and I ‘ve played with these patterned papers, Stitched Ovals  and  Dapper die !  To  make contrast with blue shade  I used Core’dinations Kraft core Metallic and Nostalgic Collection : they are perfect! Distress crayons  in various colors are so  incredible to make look older the clip at the top and I love use them in this way too!! The buttons are  absolutely  vintage, directly from my  Mom’s sewing  box !

Cathie used several different die cut sets to create her “Every Day Is A Blessing” mixed media art piece.

final 4

I have so much patterned paper in my stash and this is a wonderful way to use it. I cut several shapes for my project from My Favorite Things Spring Garden and  Things With Wings die cut sets along with the Lawn Fawn Sunny Skies die cuts. I shaded everything with Faber-Castell Pitt Big Brush Pens and added a sentiment from the Paper Artsy ELB22 stamp set.

Cheiron decided to break into her 6 x 6 paper pads and finally cut one up!

Cheiron_pptags

I have a habit of buying 6 x 6 paper pads and never using them! This week I decided to finally cut into one of them and make some fun tags, perfect to send with parcels in the mail. I used this Project Life Sweet Edition paper pad and cut the papers up to make some fun tags, layering the strips on with some Ranger matte multi medium. I die cut a couple of the fun Simon Says Stamp painted dies: painted hello and painted create to add words to my tags.

Emma invites you to come over to her blog and take a look inside her tailor made shop!

EmmaPatternedPapers

When it came to this week’s challenge, I was really spoilt for choice with all the wonderful paper collections that are around at the moment but there was one that really did stand out for me and that was the Dapper Paper Stash by Tim Holtz and I instantly knew that these papers would be perfect for me to create an altered box project with a hidden surprise inside. For the cover of my altered box, I used the fabulous Dapper Die to die cut felt and mounted this onto a die cut Stitched Rectangle. I matted the image onto burlap before attaching it to my box covered with paper from the Dapper stash and for a finishing touch I added a quote band. I do hope you’ll pop over to my blog to take a look at the inside of this project.

Kath decorated a chipboard tile with papers from Tim Holtz Dapper Paper Stash

PP1

I covered my tile with paper from Tim Holtz  12×12 Dapper Paper Stash, coloured the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink using a blending tool and created texture using the Flourish Stencil from Mini Layering Stencils Set 10 and Studio 490 Crackled Texture Paste. I used the Sizzix Tim Holtz Garden Greens and Tattered Poinsettia dies to cut the leaf stems and flowers from contrasting papers. I used the Signo Uniball White Pen to add highlights to the leaf stems and added an Idea-ology Dapper Fastener to the centre of the flowers. I added a strip of paper and Dapper Design Tape in the corner. I stamped the tickets and the sentiment from Tim Holtz Odds and Ends with Black Archival Ink, cut them out, inked around the edges with Gathered Twigs and fixed in place with 3D foam pads. I smudged Distress Collage Medium Matte around the edges of the tile with my finger and sprinkled with Prima Mini Art Stones.

Lols decorated a Mini Clipboard using Patterned Tissue Wrap

DSC03445

When I saw Kath’s decorated clipboard a few weeks ago I just had to get one for me! I love that we inspire each other to have a go at making things that we would never have thought of! I started by painting the  Mini Clipboard with White Gesso and then blended Peacock Feathers Distress Ink over the top. I cut a piece of the Melange Tissue Wrap and blended the same ink on the ‘wrong’ side,  I then covered the whole board with Multi Medium Matte Glue  and adhered it in place before splattering with Dylusions White Linen, Black Marble and Vibrant Turquoise ink. For the flap I cut a piece of  paper from a Lost and Found Paper Pack and inked to match the base. I decorated the flap with Wildflowers and Botanical Remnant Rubs, I love how this turned out and think these would make great gifts!

Macarena flies free and used  Paintables  Watercolor paper which has a watercolor resist pattern.

DSC00306

My project is so far away from my comfort zone! But… I love to trying new things and crossing the border of my zone. There is a lot of splashing, colors mixed together, layers of colors, lol!  The whole piece is done on the Paintables Watercolor paper from the Salvage District collection. Great thick paper which works with mixed medias perfectly. First I inked it with some Distress Inks, sprayed with water to get some irregular coloring and drops of water left. After that I put some white and black marks with two different sizes of jar taps. The marks were made with Dylusions Paints. Then I add some Distress Crayons into the circles and a White Sharpie touches. Lastly I sprayed the background with Dylusions Sprays.  For my focal point which is a giant butterfly I used only one color of Dylusions Spray to make a contrast with the colorful background. The same with letters.

Maura’s taking a voyage beneath the sea this week.

PatternPaper

Sometimes, my imagination runs away with me, and when I saw these Graphic 45 Voyage Beneath the Sea papers, that is exactly what happened. Of course, I had to add some stamped images too, and the Graphic 45 set 3 matching the papers was at the top of my list, as well as Tim Holtz’s Nautical Blueprint stamps.  I created some details using Seth Apter’s Pocket Watch die with Prima Rust Pastes, and added a touch of glitter and bling with the lovely 28 Lilac Lane Party On set. I think it’s time to read some Jules Verne again!

Meihsia was inspired to use patterned papers on her mixed media canvas.
Meihsia Liu simply paper crafts mixed media canvas tim holtz butterfly simle 600

Patterned papers are so fun and easy to use when creating mixed media projects. On this mixed media canvas, I pasted Tim Holtz Paper Stash patterned paper and colored the edges with Distress Paints. The butterflies were cut out from the same paper stash. I added some Prima Flowers and die cut a sentiment SMILE to decorate the canvas.

Sandra rarely  uses pattern papers, but love the Sea Breeze paper pack
IMG_5403
I had my eye on the Sea Breeze paper pack for months now. So when it was finally released, I had to have it, and it’s perfect for this challenge. I had a hard time choosing my favorite sheets, because they’re all so pretty. The Wildflowers dies are amazing and I distress them with Pitch Black Paint Dabber, Distress Embossing Powder Black Soot and Opal Magic Alchemy Paint Blue-Gold.

Zoey decided to make an ATC only using Tim Holtz patterned paper!

Mixed-Media-ATC_scrapsaurus_zoey_simonsaysstamp

For this challange I decided to use only patterned paper – ok ok except for the stickers!! I used pieces of paper from the Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Paper Stash Collage Mini and I also used the same patterned paper to die cut some pieces from dies by Tim Holtz and Sizzix.
To add some interest to the otherwise “plain” background I used as always gesso and distress crayons!

So now it’s YOUR turn to get out your patterned papers, inks, paints and all things arty and start creating! We are looking forward to seeing what you make!
