Smile! Just Because.

Hi readers! Happy Saturday! Today we’re spotlighting a really fun brand; Winnie & Walter. Please join me in welcoming Gayatri Murali as a first time guest on our store blog! You may have noticed her work on our Wednesday Challenge team! She is the newest member! :) I just love this sentiment. It’s something to keep in mind, and I think would be a great card to give to someone having a down day. Isn’t that shade of yellow super cheery? Read on to find out more info on how to recreate this beauty!

Hi there everybody, I am very excited to guest design for Simon Says Stamp Blog today. I a card using Winnie & Walter stamp sets. I stamped a tribal pattern inspired background using Scenery: Stripes, Scenery: Rectangled and Triangled and Scenery: It’s a Wonderful Pennant.

To make this card, I started with stamping the solid triangle border image from Scenery: Rectangled and Triangled stamp set with yellow pigment ink, followed by the scalloped stripe from Scenery: Stripes stamp set with grey pigment ink, then again the solid triangle border image in yellow. Followed by a thin stripe from Scenery: Stripes stamp set with grey pigment, then the outline rectangle from the Scenery: Rectangled and Triangled stamp set, finishing with another grey thin stripe. I stamped this pattern until I covered the entire panel. To finish the background, I stamped the tiny triangle from Scenery: It’s a Wonderful Pennant stamp set in grey inside the outline rectangle image. Absolutely love how the tribal stamp sets pattern turned out.

The background is too busy, so I added a smaller vellum panel on which I white heat embossed the large sentiment “Smile” by masking off the “s” from “Smiles” stamp. The smaller sentiment, I stamped in black on a white strip of cardstock and adhered below the larger sentiment using foam adhesives. This also helps hide the foam adhesive added behind the vellum panel to be adhered on the stamped background panel. The sentiments are from The Big, the Bold and Friends stamp set.

Finally, I added sparkly grey enamel dots and Lemon drop sequins to bring the card together. I then taped this completed panel on to a white card base. I hope you like my card. Thanks for stopping by today!

Family Love Canvas

Welcome to the blog today everyone!

I have a special canvas project to share with you. What makes this so special is the thought that I put into it. I’ve added elements that represent things (or people) in my life.  I’ve gathered simple items to put together and placed them into groupings with meaning.  I’ve just recently become an empty nester… so this is my way of holding on, yet letting go.

Shari-Carroll-Family-Love-Canvas-1

To get things started, I used the Circles Circles stencil from Stencil Girls with Art Anthology Stucco rough texture paste on an 8″ x 10″ canvas board.  While that was drying, I took a walk out to the backyard and picked up a few twigs, ones that were as straight as I could find.  We have always enjoyed the outdoors and what better way to bring the outdoors in then to put them on a canvas! These represent my husband, our two boys and myself.  I’ve wrapped the bottoms with twine not just for texture, but to represent the ties we have with one another and our family’s history.

I mixed some paint and watered it down to create a wash of color. I allowed it to flow into the valleys of the stucco and dry completely before adding some corrugated cardboard and the “trees”. One of the twigs had a little stem coming out from it which was perfect to hold a token of LOVE!

To finish the canvas off, I added clear buttons that are threaded with twine. These stand for the support and inspiration of other family members that are with us or who have come before us, our roots! Have you ever tried creating this way? A project just for you? I love doing this.

I’ve shot a full process video of all the steps to create this canvas, you can watch it below or on our YouTube Channel
