Hydrangea Blooms by Laura Bassen

Purple Hydrangea flower (Hydrangea macrophylla) in a garden
Hi friends! Happy Tuesday! Gorgeous real life shot of hydrangeas above, isn’t it? This was the inspiration for the fantastic Laura Bassen for her feature today, and oh my goodness did she represent it well! She used the Hydrangea Blooms stamps and dies along with some of her favorite Simon Says Stamp inks (including HOT MAMA!) to recreate this gorgeous scene in card form. Don’t forget to watch the video, and enjoy!

Studio Monday with Nina-Marie: Debossing, Distress Inks & Penny Black Inc.

Hi crafty friends, it’s Nina-Marie here with you today! I am super excited to be back again to share a new Studio Monday video this week, featuring Penny Black products!

With the Holidays fast approaching, I think we’ve all been planning (or already working on!) projects for the upcoming Season, and I wanted to share a fun, quick and easy background technique using a few of my favorite Penny Black products!

Debossing Distress Ink Penny Black_3

This card design and background technique is perfect for mass producing because it really doesn’t take that much time to put these together. I used a debossing technique to impress the design of the die into the watercolor paper. What I love most about this technique is that it shows how much more versatile large, cover plate dies can be, because one of the products used to create this card is the No Two Are Alike snowflake cover plate from Penny Black. Dies like these are a bit more pricey than other dies because of their large size; however, I think when you can discover more ways to use background dies like these, it makes the investment worthwhile.

The color in the background of these cards was created with Distress Inks; I wanted something kind of frosty and wintry in style, so I chose Worn Lipstick, Wilted Violet, Chipped Sapphire and Tumbled Glass for my color palette. In the video, I’ll be sharing all the steps I took to color in these backgrounds, so make sure you check that out!

I hope you’ll watch the video I have created for this week! In it, I not only share the techniques I used to create these debossed and Distress Inked backgrounds, but also tips for creating custom glitter paper too! There’s a lot to see, so let’s get started…!
