This week we are welcoming the lovely Makena Bennet aka Avant_Card into the Designer Spotlight. If you haven’t visited her blog before then you are in for a real treat!

Makena’s favorite Christmas technique is to make Shaker Cards. To capture the holiday spirit, she crushed candy canes and mixed it with Tim Holtz Distress Mica Flakes to create a whimsical shaker interior and frost effect. She used the Tim Holtz Cathedral Window, Holiday Greens and Darling Deer. She used Picket Fence, Candied Apple and Festive Berries Distress Inks and finished the cards with Ideology elements.

Anna-Karin could never pick favorite technique, there are way too many favorites. She does love to create backgrounds with a watercolor look and with texture. Here she used Paper Artsy Infusions Colored Stains for the background. The sentiments were stamped with the Paper Artsy Magic and Wonder Edition and Sunshine and Rain sets.

Barbara has no real preference for any particular technique! She definitely loves creating backgrounds and using stencils and stamps. In this Etcetera tag, she used Paper Artsy Infusions In the navy and Sleight blue along with Distress Paints Speckled Egg and Tumbled Glass to make the background. To complete the tag she used Tim Holtz Sizzix Ornamental Birds, Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Forest Floor, and Christmastime 3.

Cheiron is always playing around with new techniques, and this was her first time using Paper Artsy Infusions. She used in In The Navy as the background for her tag. She added Distress Opaque Matte Texture Paste through the Snowflakes Layering Stencil and finished her tag with a sentiment from Stampers Anonymous Tiny Text Christmas, a Christmas Paper Doll, a Milk Cap and a Christmas Token.

Emma went back to where her crafting journey began and chose stamping and watercoloring as her favourite technique. She used Tim Holtz’s The Poinsettia Stamp Set by Stampers Anonymous and watercoloured the flowers with PaperArtsy Sunset Beach, Are You Cerise?, and Black Knight Infusions before adding a stamped sentiment from the ChristmasTime 3 stamp set.

Kath‘s favourite technique is creating backgrounds, so she used PaperArtsy Sunset Beach and The Sage Infusions with Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Retro Flakes, Christmastime 3 and Tiny Text Christmas to transform a sheet of Distress Watercolor card into a colourful Christmas card and matching gift tags.

Macarena loves to stamp with stencils revealing its negative images so she used Paper Artsy Infucions in shades of green: Slime, The Sage and A Bit Jaded with Tim Holtz Numeric stencil. Having the background ready she created a night scene with her favorite Tim Holtz Sizzix Merry Moose.

Maura loves using lots of techniques, so she headed to her art journal to make a layered page with Paper Artsy Gwen Lafleur 04 and Gwen Lafleur 06 stamp sets, along with lots of Paper Artsy paints like Coral and Beach Hut to create her underwater scene.

Meihsia was inspired to create a mixed media tag with Paper Artsy Rusting Powder on the background and using her favorite technique –  heat embossing the stamped image with Ranger Embossing Powder and Paper Artsy Lynne Perrella Cling Stamp.

One of Sandra‘s favorite technique is using Infusions on top of a coated surface, in this case In The NavyGreen Man and Sleigth Blue Infusions on top of Distress Crackle Paste

Zoey loves making backgrounds – she used a mix of Paper Artsy Infusions to create this almost watery background. She also used Paper Artsy Fresco Finish CRACKLE GLAZE Acrylic Paint to create a bit of texture and Paper Artsy Fresco Finish SNOWFLAKE Chalk Acrylic Paint to add some highlights.

So now it’s YOUR turn to get out your inks, paints and all things arty and start creating! We are looking forward to seeing what you make!
