Yippee for Yana: Rad Grad

Hi friends!! Happy Monday! Please welcome back the always creative and fun Yana Smakula to our blog with her latest edition in the Yippee for Yana series! In this inspiration, Yana makes a super playful gender neutral graduation card! Don’t forget to watch the video, and enjoy! Yippee for Yana
Hello friends, this is Yana and welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video! Today I have a graduation card to share using some new goodies from Simon Says Stamp!

Yippee for Yana: Rad Grad

I started to work on my card by stamping “You’re Seriously One Rad Grad” sentiment from the Rad Grad stamp set by Cathy Zielske onto Neenah 80 LB Solar White white cardstock using my mini MISTI in a few colors of ink to create a multi-color sentiment. To allow myself to do the multi-color stamping I used masking technique and masked parts of the message to reveal one line of text at a time to ink it up and stamp in just one color of ink.

I used Simon’s Dye inks today and the colors are Smoke, Green Apple, Sunshine, and Evergreen. I feel this is a wonderful gender-neutral color combination. I like to make funny cards, so to add a touch of humor to this card I stamped Octopus from the Under The Sea Animals stamp set. I used Intense Black ink for stamping and colored this image using several Copic markers – YG93, YG95, and YG99. I also added white pen detail once my Copic coloring was completely dry. I stamped a graduation cap using same yellow ink color as before for my octopus to wear and cut all of these images out with the help of coordinating dies.

I love that there are dies for the sentiments in the Rad Grad stamp set. I don’t have a lot of sentiment sets where I have a coordinating die to cut my stamped message out so I am very excited about these new sets from Cathy.

To create a background panel for my card I dry embossed a 4 x 5 ¼” panel of Fog cardstock with the help of Abstract Triangle stencil in my Spellbinders Platinum die cutting machine. I adhered my panel onto an A2 side folding Smoke card base, foam mounted die cut elements on top and embellished this card using several Rainbow Confetti pieces from Simon.

Have fun stamping!

  4. Yana,
Love, Love, Love your card today. It is so cute!!
I always look forward to your videos and cards!

  5. An adorable card Yana. Its so stinking CUTE!
Cathy’s stamps and dies are always so fun and the fact that the die cuts around the sentiment as it does, just makes it more interesting. Love that.

  6. Such a cute and happy card! Love the colour choice and the raised wording and really like the dry embossed triangles for the background.

  7. What a fun graduation card! Love the colors you chose and, of course, the octopus with the cap!

  8. Super fun card, Yana. I literally did a double-take when I saw the thumbnail, asking “Is that really an octopus in a graduation cap?” and I was delighted to see that it was. Thanks for sharing such a fun card with us. I love seeing how one can mix stamp sets like this.

  9. Love the graduation card! The octopus with the cap on is so cute! I like the die-cut sentiment too and would like to see more of them in future stamp sets.

  10. Grey is simply not a color I ever reach for. But I love the way it is used here. The two shades on the background and card base really draw out the one in the sentiment. Love it!

  11. Love the set including that fab octopus! But alas, no more graduates any more! Last one was last year! Thanks for the inspiration today!

  12. Great, fun graduation card. The colors are super and love the die cut sentiment and cute octopus!

  13. Really love this octopus Yana! I am going to check out that stencil used on the background. Nicely done.
