Hi friends!! Happy Monday! Please welcome back the always creative and fun Yana Smakula to our blog with her latest edition in the Yippee for Yana series! In this inspiration, Yana makes a super playful gender neutral graduation card! Don’t forget to watch the video, and enjoy! Yippee for Yana
Hello friends, this is Yana and welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video! Today I have a graduation card to share using some new goodies from Simon Says Stamp!

Yippee for Yana: Rad Grad

I started to work on my card by stamping “You’re Seriously One Rad Grad” sentiment from the Rad Grad stamp set by Cathy Zielske onto Neenah 80 LB Solar White white cardstock using my mini MISTI in a few colors of ink to create a multi-color sentiment. To allow myself to do the multi-color stamping I used masking technique and masked parts of the message to reveal one line of text at a time to ink it up and stamp in just one color of ink.

I used Simon’s Dye inks today and the colors are Smoke, Green Apple, Sunshine, and Evergreen. I feel this is a wonderful gender-neutral color combination. I like to make funny cards, so to add a touch of humor to this card I stamped Octopus from the Under The Sea Animals stamp set. I used Intense Black ink for stamping and colored this image using several Copic markers – YG93, YG95, and YG99. I also added white pen detail once my Copic coloring was completely dry. I stamped a graduation cap using same yellow ink color as before for my octopus to wear and cut all of these images out with the help of coordinating dies.

I love that there are dies for the sentiments in the Rad Grad stamp set. I don’t have a lot of sentiment sets where I have a coordinating die to cut my stamped message out so I am very excited about these new sets from Cathy.

To create a background panel for my card I dry embossed a 4 x 5 ¼” panel of Fog cardstock with the help of Abstract Triangle stencil in my Spellbinders Platinum die cutting machine. I adhered my panel onto an A2 side folding Smoke card base, foam mounted die cut elements on top and embellished this card using several Rainbow Confetti pieces from Simon.

Have fun stamping!

Blog Candy Alert!! Follow our blog via email and comment on this post for a chance to win special blog candy!

  1. I wish I had a grad to make this for. It is adorable. No one expects an octopus on their graduation card!! It is so cute and I love the colors!! It would be cool to match it to the school’s colors.

  2. What a fun Grad card! I love the octopus… And I love how Yana added texture to the background by dry embossing.

  3. I love the card!! I try to come up with humorous cards as well, sometimes it tough. My boys are grown and out of the house, ages 25 and 27 so I try to send them cards for the different holidays throughout the years and keep them funny or masculine or anything that they won’t roll their eyes at, LOL!! Since they both so far away from us, it’s my way of saying hello :) . Thanks for sharing!
