Yippee for Yana: Stretching Stamps

Hi friends! Happy Wednesday! I’m delighted to welcome back special guest Yana Smakula in her bi-monthly Yippee for Yana series! Be sure to watch the video for all the details! (Please note; our dear friend Yana is Ukrainian, to show support to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, please see Yana’s post HERE.)

Hello, crafters, this is Yana Smakula for Simon Says Stamp! Welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video!

For my today’s video, I thought I would show you a simple way to stretch stamp sets. I adore Simon’s Love Day stamp set with all of its lovely critters. However, it is a Valentine’s Day set. Critters are holding hearts making them great for Love themed cards. But what if you wanted to use one of them for a Birthday card? You can do that with a little bit of tweaking. I searched my stash for a Birthday stamp set that would contain a party hat and balloons. And the Birthday Numbers one fit the bill perfectly. Here I have a grouping of Birthday balloons that I can have one of my critters hold and also a party hat I can add to the critter to celebrate a Birthday.

I stamped multiples of each image onto Simon’s 120lb cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Next, I did very simple coloring. I’ve actually shared very similar cards to the cards I’m making today in a video earlier this year for Valentine’s Day. I made those cards Valentine’s Day themed by using lots of red and not deviating from the theme of this stamp set. Here, because I was going for a birthday theme, I used bright and cheery colors when coloring the balloons, party hats, bows, and stars.

Simon has coordinating dies available for all of these images which makes it so easy to cut them out. Here I have my main critter, the balloons, the party hat, the bow, and the stars. I cut the heart-shaped balloon off so that I can add my colorful balloon cluster instead.

Next, I started planning the placement on the card. I wanted to have a simple outdoor scene, so I dotted grass using a YG03 marker, and the sky with B000. This is a super simple technique that requires pretty much zero skills. You just dot the color onto the paper creating abstract-looking blobs that will, in the end, look like grass and sky.

I stamped my sentiment – Happy Birthday. This one comes from the Greetings Mix 2 stamp set and added a sub sentiment from the Tiny Words Birthday stamp set. I foam mounted my critter with all of the party images and added my white panel onto an A2 card base where I covered the front with Sea Glass cardstock for a pop of color.

I hope you feel inspired to create! Have fun stamping!
