Tim Holtz Distress Ink Color POP: Blueprint Sketch!
Hi readers! Welcome back to our very special and super fun Color POP series with the fantastic Wanda Guess, where we showcase one by one each new Distress Ink Color of the month by Tim Holtz! Today the focus is on Blueprint Sketch. Isn’t this color bold & beautiful? It’s one of my favorites so far! Read on to see how Wanda brought it to life!
It’s Wanda, and I’m here today with the latest installment in our Color Pop series – featuring the newest Distress Ink Color! I’m excited to share a project using the color for July – Blueprint Sketch. This is a clear, bright, beautiful blue with just the tiniest undertone of violet. It really is the exact color of blueprints! I absolutely love it. For this month’s project I paired it with Barn Door and Mustard Seed. You can never go wrong with blue, red and yellow. And, I thought, what better items to use than Tim Holtz Blueprint Stamps! I am seriously obsessed with the blueprint stamps. I have them all!
Since this color is the color of blueprints, I decided to make my own blueprint! I started by stamping the mini blueprint trophy several times with Versamark Ink onto a sheet of white cardstock. Then I used white embossing powder and heat set the images. I ended up with a sheet of trophies – my own background paper. I didn’t worry about being super careful to line them up. I like it more random. After my embossed images cooled, I took a small sponge dauber and the Blueprint Sketch Ink Pad and started coloring over the embossing. What emerged was awesome! Yes, I do love that blue…
Last month in Tim’s 12 Tags post, he made his own striped ribbon and I have been wanting to try that. It’s so easy and fun! I taped my Tim Holtz Ribbon down onto my craft mat in a straight line with washi tape. Then I took my Blueprint Sketch marker and drew a line along one edge. Next I took my Mister bottle and gently spritzed the ribbon with water. It was amazing to watch the ink bleed into the white part of the ribbon. This is magic and you have to do this technique! I dried the ribbon with my heat tool and set it aside to make the rest of the card. Tip – while drying it with your heat tool, gently crinkle it to five it some texture.
I stamped the Ribbon Blueprint stamp several times onto white paper and then cut the stamped images apart so I could layer them as my focal point. This is a great technique with the blueprint stamps. I almost always layer them. I colored the ribbon images with Distress Ink and a water brush. Then I layered all the pieces together with foam tape. When I tied the ribbon onto my card, I added a metal star charm.
This card truly says “You are the best!” Trophies, ribbons, and a star! This would be perfect for your superstar athlete, dad, or co-worker.
I made another color swatch reference chart for you this month, so you can see where this beautiful new blue fits into the Distress Ink color family.
Thank you for following along with me each month as I feature a new color. Can’t wait to see you next month! Have a great day and happy crafting!
