Sizzlin’ Father’s Day Card!

Hi readers! Please join me in welcoming back the fantastic Chari Moss who is designed another fabulous Lawn Fawn card for us this month! Isn’t this scene too cute? I love that this little doggy is grilling his steak! Below Chari tells a bit more about her thought process and how to create this sweet card for yourself! There’s still time! Dad will love it :)

Father’s day is this weekend and the first time I saw the new Let’s BBQ set from Lawn Fawn I just knew it was going to be perfect for masculine cards, especially Father’s Day cards!  For this card I decided to try out my new Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens so I stamped out the images with Archival ink on watercolor paper and started to play.

I blended the pens with water for the grill, flames and steak.  To set my scene I used the new puffy clouds border dies to create not only clouds but a tree line as well.  I cut the clouds, trees and hillside from watercolor paper and used distress inks to add the colors.  I blended the distress inks with the ink blending tool so that it still had some of the texture and look of watercoloring to tie in with the images but yet it was still smooth since I was covering a larger area.  I mixed stamps from Happy Everything and Violet’s ABCs to create a custom mixed font sentiment.

After I had all my pieces arranged on my card I still felt like it needed something else. Best way to fix this…put a dog on it! Why not right? I colored the dog with the Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens as well but this time I blended by only using the markers, no water, and I think it turned out pretty well.

  1. Having lost my father and my husband, Father’s Day is bittersweet.
Do love the card. Both of them would have loved it.

  2. Pretty card – love the dog and the way the sentiment has been stamped on the ‘cloud’ – very inspirational:)

  3. How cute! At my house, we grill almost nightly (it’s too hot to turn on stove!), but instead of a dog waiting to get stuff off the grill, we have a “cat garden”, outdoor feral cats who have “adopted” us.

  4. Such a cute card. Hope the dog is grilling the steak and not about ready to grab it and run. Love the design of the card. The images are perfect for a card for Dad. Love the coloring. Great job .. oh and I love the stamps. TFS

  5. This is just too adorable for words! Such a sweet yet still masculine card for a wonderful dad!

  6. Cute card! Reminds me of the time our dog grabbed a chicken off the B-B-Q. I like the way you did the sentiment in the cloud.
