Prima Carte Blanche Frame with Shari Carroll

Ok… so I need some sort of intervention because I have this serious problem of loving GREY and silver!! It’s in my closet, my wall paint, my furniture, even the siding on my house. Oy!

This frame idea came to mind because I’ve been collecting “C’s” for my wall in my living room. I have them in galvanized steel, black and white and even mirrored. I wanted to make something special for the arrangement. A Shabby chic look is what I was going for and the Salvage Papers by Prima were perfect for my idea.

I personalized my piece by adding our last name… after all… it’s the reason I collect “C’s”. I opened up the Heart Locket to use it as a frame, then added the letters to the background paper.

I was able to change what were grungy metal pieces into a shabby chic look by adding white gesso and silver paint.

I have shot a full process video showing how to make this, you can view it below or on our YouTube channel.

  1. This is really stunning – love it! I have always wanted to do a room as shabby chic, but the hubby just isn’t into that. He’s such a man. lol

  2. Very cool! I pinned it to my SSS board. Now I want to make some for my grandkids. It would be cool if they could have a framed mixed media with their initials.

  3. This is a great project Shari. I love home decor that can be personalized. Makes a house a home! TFS your fabulous video tutorial, it’s very helpful to see the process!

  4. I love this idea. I can only make so many cards with all my paper and tools. This presents another option for all my paper.

  5. Shari this is fabulous! I’m loving the grey and silver too. Love how you layered the base papers. You have my creative juices flowing. I’m thinking of doing something similar for my husbands business – he works from home and something like this with his business name would look great. Thanks for the inspiration.

  6. Silver and Gray is one of my favorite color combinations also! It can be brightened up with a dash of color, is elegant all on it’s own and fits for any style! Can’t ask for more than that can we?
I LOVE what you have done with all the elements on this gorgeous creation!! TFS!

  7. This is so beautiful! Would love to see a photo of your wall! :) I love the white, silver and gray–so elegant!

  8. Awesome project – love the silver and grey !!! Am sure it will look stunning with all your other ‘C’s. Thanks for sharing !

  9. Very elegant piece. I am still amazed at the wonderful effect adding Gesso achieves I am sure it will look beautiful in your home. I think the gray thing is just fine.

  10. Never thought I needed an intervention but maybe I do because grey is my most favorite neutral ever. Even when it fell out of favor for a few years…so I do understand your addiction. This is very beautiful, and it would fit nicely it my home minus the “Carroll”. Gorgeous work.

  11. What’s not to love about grey? It is a FABULOUS color! My car is grey, by walls are grey….my hair is grey (good thing for hair dye!). Awesome project!

  12. Love the monochromatic look of grey and silver, too, Shari. Your framed “C” decor is fabulous. Would make a great personalized wedding gift, too!

  13. I love this project. My mom also loves these colors so this gives me an idea for the perfect gift for her.
