Mondays in May with May: 2014 Edition! Part 1

Hi readers! Happy first Monday in May! We so enjoyed doing this fun collaborative feature with May Flaum last year that we decided to do it again! Join us each Monday in May to go down another creative journey with May Flaum! She’s sharing some fun techniques with some of her favorite products and you don’t want to miss it!

Enjoy!

Do I like to distress? Oh yes! May Flaum here, and I love to color with Tim Holtz distress products and today I’ve got a card featuring my current favorite technique – coloring a white embossed image.

There is just something about the white raised image with distress colors that simply amazes me. I love it! To begin, stamp and emboss (with white or black powder) any image and heat set the powder.

007

Next, color in the image with distress markers. Once you are done with that, cover the rest of the paper by using a foam blending tool and your distress ink color of choice.

010

Mist with water or perfect pearls

016

While it is still wet, go ahead and take a water brush and blend the colors within the stamped image further. This will give a beautiful contrast and really help that image pop.

While your paper dries, stamp again with one of the colors you used onto white cardstock. This background image should then be misted with water to blur it a bit, and the edges colored lightly with distress ink and a foam blending tool.

Once this is done, it will all come together quickly! Here you can see my finished card.
