Happy New Gear!

Hi Readers! TGIF! We have some super creative inspiration from Debby Hughes today!! Enjoy!

Hello, Debby here and I’m working those stamps and dies again today in order to get the most mileage out of them :D To be precise my first card uses a couple of the newer dies in a slightly different way than intended. These little Christmas mice are made with a bow from the Brilliant Gifts die for their ears and tail and the body is a pad from the Paws die!

For each mouse I cut the above portion of the Brilliant Gifts die twice, once from Fog card and once from Cotton Candy for the inner ears before trimming the present portion away to leave just the ears and tail. Then popped a Fog body on top (pad from the Paws dies) and voila one adorable little mouse. The only thing needed was, of course, a cute wiggle eye ;)

Having made two mice it was now a case of creating a little scene for them. I started with the Wrapped Mailing Label die cut from Neenah solar white card and clear heat embossed the sentiment from Peace on Earth onto the top portion of the die cut before inking with Distress Inks in Broken China and Chipped Sapphire. The snow layer is foam mounted on top and is made from another Wrapped Mailing Label partially cut with the Stitched Slopes and Hills die. To embellish I tucked in an Abby snowflake cut from glitter card and a Copic coloured and glittered tree I had left over from this project. Everything is mounted on a top folding Neenah card base.

I can’t take credit for this idea! I was emailing with Celia Cawthon and she mentioned wanting to make some Fishing Vests with the Ugly Sweater set. Very kindly Celia agreed to let me run with that idea for my second card today :D So a fishing vest huh? I stamped the vest image from Ugly Sweater in Memento Tuxedo Black and drew in lots of pockets with a Copic multiliner. I have so much respect for stamp designers having even attempted to make a small adjustment to the image!

Once Copic colored I stamped the ornament string from Presents and Ornaments as the fishing rod and the twirly string from Ornaments as the fishing line. The partially stamped sentiment from Snow Gear is inked in Schoolhouse Red. Then also in Schoolhouse Red and the new Sparrow ink (love this grey/brown colour!) are some of the cute fishes from Best Fishes. Finally I Googled how to tie a fishing knot for the twine at the top of the panel. Then mounted the panel onto a top folding Schoolhouse card base. I’m hoping this fishing card will make someones New Year happy :D

Well, that’s this month’s installment of getting the most from your supplies. Have fun experimenting!

  1. These cards are really adorable and the only mouse I’ve ever really liked is Mickey! :) Clever use of dies and stamps and I’m going to check mine to see who is hiding there!

  2. OMG! What an adorable card!! LOVE how you repurposed the gifts dies to create these adorable mice!!! MUST HAVE this die!!! TFS!

  3. Extraordinary…where do I go to get a brain that can do this? I can’t get over how cute those mice are and the fisherman’s vest…incredible.

  4. What sweet mice. Great idea on how to use different dies to make something else. Very creative Debby! Lovely card.

  5. Two great cards. The mice are so cute and a great way to stretch those dies. The fishing vest would be a great gift tag for any fishermen.
