Happy Earth Day! Upcycle Card
May Flaum here, ready to craft a super fun new card with you today. When it comes to reusing and recycling products I am all about using what I have! I love to give photo frames, boxes, and home décor items make-overs with some alcohol ink or paint, paper or paste. I love using my craft supplies to help me extend or give new life to all kinds of things! Today I’m going to share a super simple idea – reuse a coffee cup holder to create a gift card holding card!
The first thing you’ll need to do is get and cut open one side of the gift card. I want to make this card 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 so I trimmed a bit off the side.
This next part is simple – but important! First cover one side (only one side! with paper, washi tape as I did here, or anything else. This will be the decorative front of your card. Next, if you want to stitch around the edge (again, only working to cover one side!) go ahead and do that. At this time you’ll want to make a slit in the front of your card where you are going to slide this coffee cup holder through. Make it about 1/4″ bigger than the holder as you’ll need a bit of wiggle room. Put some liquid adhesive on the side you want for the front of your card, and slide it on through!
Above you can see how the front will look (Adhered down) and how when the card is opened the Starbucks/front of the coffee cup protector shows! If you’d like to make this a gift card holder simply glue the bottom and open side of the holder down.
Now you’re all set and ready to decorate!
I had a lot of fun with the new Amy Tangerine stamps, an assortment of my favorite dye ink pads, and a wink of stella pen to help create a little planter box out of the coffee cup holder shown on the front. Such fun! Just hand-draw your leaves and stems. This would also work well with dimensional die cuts or flower embellishments instead of stamps.
To finish things off I drew around my card with pen (stitching could also work) and added some sweet soft stamped hearts. I love how this came together – and I hope you’ve enjoyed my fun card.
From plastic wrap to paper headed to the garbage can – we can all be looking for items to reuse and upcycle!

I like your ink choices, I always admire when people can mix different brands together to make things look good.
Great mix of colors and patterns!
So colorful and artsy. Love it!
A really bright and cheery card. TFS!
Very pretty card! As they say…someone’s trash is someone else’s treasure…especially applies to crafters!! Happy, and creative, Earth Day!
I love using bits of scraps from around by house to add to my projects. I save every button and scrap of ribbon because you never know what you can use. I even salvaged some metal pieces from an old keyboard to use on my altered art project.
I try to use things like these as often as I can too :) It makes a project very unique.
HAPPY Earth Day :)

Love it, May. Always try to keep a “green” mind in our lives. Thanks for sharing such a cute project. Cheers!
Love to recycle cards that I get from others! Nice job on this card!
Wow! Gorgeous card!
Cute!
Great card I luv reusing in new ways
cute card, however, I’ve found the audience for a card like this to be rather small. I sent an anniversary card to dear friends recently and the response was ” interesting card” , not the ” I love the card you sent” that I usually get. Seems those outside of the ArtsyFartsy world we live in just don’t ” get it”…… I do and enjoy it!
So creative!! I love it!
Very nice!! What a great way to honor Earth Day!
Love your card May, perfect for Earth day!
