Doodling with Debby: Stamped & Die Cut Wreath
Hi friends! TGIF!! Thanks for stopping by today! Read on to see the latest edition of Doodling with Debby, and enjoy!
Hi it’s Debby here and I’m delighted to be joining you with this month’s Doodling With Debby feature. Today I have a video creating a stamped and die cut wreath in a beautiful soft colour scheme.
I adore the colours in the latest Blooming Meadow ink set from Simon in particular the Dusty Sage, Seafoam and Winter Sky greens and blues and so I used those as the base for my colour scheme. I started this card by stamping and die cutting a bunch of leaf sprigs from the Friends Of Life set in Dusty Sage and Seafoam.
For the wreath flowers, and with the gorgeous Winter Sky ink as my inspiration, I pulled out a palette of blue inks; from lightest to darkest – Cloudy Sky, Winter Sky, Caribbean Blue and Soft Navy. The Friends Of Life set does come with outline images for the two flowers however I wanted to keep the flowers soft and delicate and so jumped straight in to stamp the first solid stamps for the flowers with Cloudy Sky. For the second layer (shadowing on the petals) I used Winter Sky and then I followed this up using Caribbean Blue for the details and the centre circle. To finish the flower there are a couple of images to add detail to the flower centre and for those I used Soft Navy. I used the matching dies to cut out the flowers I’d stamped and then it was on to constructing the wreath.
My initial thoughts were to trace around a circle die on to a piece of card and then fill the circle with leaves and flowers but as I started to practice the arrangement I realized I actually liked just a simple collection of flowers and leaves in the lower right of the circle. I then remembered the Chisholm Wreath die, which would create a perfect wreath base and loved how the white wreath provided structure without competing with the focal point.
For the sentiment, I used the ‘friends’ from the Friends Of Life set stamped in Soft Navy and die cut with it’s matching die and then added a coordinating sentiment stamped and white heat embossed on Slate card and trimmed to a skinny banner. I mounted the wreath on a Stitched Rectangle of Fog card and that in turn on a white side folding card base.
The vintage chic sequins from the recent Mothers Fathers Florals release has unusual blue grey sequins in the mix, which were the perfect match for this card. I also added white gel pen dots to the flower centres and finally stamped the spray of dots image from the Friends Of Life set in Barely Beige ink around the wreath arrangement.
Thanks for joining me today and I’ll see you for next month’s Doodling With Debby feature.
