Did You Know: Fun Facts and Crafty Tips! March 2020 Edition

Hello crafters, it’s Shari Carroll here with you! Today I have a new edition of our popular Did You Know series! I will be highlighting some of my favorite NEW products from Ranger and Tim Holtz.

If it’s your first time seeing this feature, each month we bring you fun facts, creative tips and even crafty hacks about your favorite supplies and brands; you can then use these awesome tips that you learn in your next crafting projects! Are you ready to learn some fun tricks? Keep on reading!

Tim Holtz Distress Ink Storage Tin

I love storage and organization. I do have shelf units for a lot of my inks, but I also prefer to have my most used inks handy to grab quickly.

These tins hold 15 ink pads each and are stackable. They also have a latch closure on the front. I’ve downloaded the color labels from Ranger and glued them onto the ink pad bases for easy identification.

Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Blower

This right here is amazing!! I’ve tried straws, canned air, and blow driers to try to move wet inks around. All of which had their issues. This blower is easy to hold and the air can be directed exactly where you want it to go. You control the amount of the blast by adjusting the pressure you apply to the bulb.

Although it is suggested for alcohol inks, it can be used with any fluid medium where you would want movement.

Wendy Vecchi 7 inch Make Art Stay-tion

What a handy tool!! The all-in-one magnetic surface is great for stenciling, aligning, and embossing and has a printed grid! The 7″ x 7″ size is perfect for crafting on the go. It includes four brushed aluminum magnets and a flexible, magnetic centering ruler. The magnets securely hold surfaces and stencils in place while applying inks and mediums. I LOVE it!!

Dina Wakely Media Gloss Spray

This is a product that I’ve been looking forward to. Dina’s Media Gloss paint dries permanent which means it’s not reactive to other media that you put over top. Whether you like to create your own card backgrounds, journal pages or even mixed media projects, this spray stays put! It can also be used as a colorful resist to Distress inks. They dry bright and to a glossy finish.

Tip: Did you know that reserve items in our store will ship to you once they are available? It’s like putting a hold on the product so you’re first in line to receive it. We suggest that you place reserve orders separately than “in stock” items.

I hope this month’s edition of Did You Know was helpful with your cardmaking and projects! Thanks for stopping by and spending some time with me today!

  1. Great to know… I am going to add that magnetic base to my wish list. My daughter’s always check it for ideas. Thanks Shari!

  2. I recently received the TH Alcohol Ink Blower and am anxious to use it. Thanks for the tips about the new products, though I don’t always feel I need to purchase all of them, it’s helpful for me to know what others are saying before I make a decision.

  3. This article was very helpful and probably would buy three out of the four items. Wondering what is going on there at SSS as the favorite brand this month doesn’t have any of the things I want to order and then others are on reserve. I’ve had to try other suppliers to get what I want. Email to customers?????

    1. With China very slowly recovering from their bout with COVID-19, we will all notice many items we’re used to having available immediately taking much longer to restock. Hold on. We’ll get it all, it will just take a little longer!

  4. The ink storage box looks great but I’m just wondering if you’ve had any problems storing your ink pads on their sides like that. I have always stored mine like that but the latest 3 Distress Oxides I bought did not like that position. The ink pad has slipped down and the ink has pooled along the bottom side of the container, creating a big mess when I took the lid off.

    1. Yes, I’ve also found that, especially with the oxides. Not a nice mess to clean up, and of course a waste of ink as well. I like the look of these new storage tins but I’d be wary about using them based on past experience.

      1. I’ve contacted Ranger about this but had no reply. The website I bought them from were unhelpful too, saying I was the first to mention this to them.

      2. Ranger replied saying “Although these ink pads may be stored flat or on the side, if the person inquiring had this issue, storing them flat is suggested as a possible way to prevent the ink from seeping to the edge of the case. “

  5. I’m wondering if the new Alcohol ink blower is actually any different than a standard camera air blower, if anyone has compared them? They look identical. I got mine from amazon and it was very cheap, but I’ve been very happy with the results it gives.

  6. Thanks so much Shari. Very helpful. You don’t find the ink in the pads sinks to the bottom when they’re stored in this way? I must admit it is much more efficient to store them like that and so much easier to find than just in a drawer stacked, so I can only see the one on the top of the pile. Love this idea and also the tip about the colour labels for the ink pads. Appreciate this segment. Bev from Sydney Australia.
