Color Coordinates With Shari Carroll

Hello everyone!! Happy Saturday! I hope you find some time to craft today. I created a new Color Coordinate combination for you which uses Purple, Greens, Blues and Black. I did something a little different this time where I blended my colors on cardstock using an Ink Blending tool, then used dies to create the elements of my card.

My son Scooter turned 29 yesterday ( Happy Birthday Scoot!!) and I wanted to make him a special card to celebrate the last year of his twenties! I love to make birthday cards and highlight the year of my victim. The Cathy Z Everett Numbers are one of those fundamental die sets that are the perfect size for cardmaking. It’s a bold font that can be used for Clean and Simple or Distressed and Vintage styles. After coloring paper with my inks, I die cut 3 sets of “29”.

I filled the black panel with alternating “29’s” cut from black and white cardstocks. I also used the Cathy Z “Dude” die for part of my message and stamped the Happy Birthday using the Messages For Everyday set.

I’ve filmed a video showing how I created this card. You can view it below or on our YouTube channel HERE.

This past March, I created a PDF of our past recipes that you can print out to create a booklet HERE.

  1. Shari,
Thanks for a great and simple idea for a masculine card, I never would have thought to use an age number.
    Kool idea.

  2. I love the card!! I’m always looking for masculine cards since I have 2 grown boys and it’s getting harder and harder to make cards for them as they get older so thank you for this idea and the Color Coordinate! Another one to add to my booklet :) . I love my booklet and look at it often, best little tool in my Studio and thank you for that because I always had trouble with colors, but not anymore!! Thanks for sharing!!

  3. What great colors and a great masculine birthday card. These are some of my favorite colors together. Thanks!

  4. I love this card! This would be a great card to give to both my sons. Great idea putting his age all over it!

  5. Love this card! My son just turned 40 (boy, am I old!) and, of course, I had to make a big deal out of THAT number! I like the idea of blending inks and then die cutting – looks great!

  6. Love the color combinations on this card. Also want to thank you for the PDFs of the other combinations.

  7. Purple & green has always been a fave color combo for me; and paired with the black is very striking. Love this awesome, more masculine, card.
