Art Journaling: Live Laugh Love with Shari Carroll

Welcome to the blog everyone and happy Sunday!

I’ve been busy working in my Art Journal and today I’m featuring a “free for all style” where I just went for whatever I grabbed. I started out with some Tim Holtz Expedition ephemera pack and torn dictionary page as the base. I’ve glued these down to an 8.5″x8.5″ piece of watercolor cardstock.

I’ve added a layer of watered down gesso for a white wash look and to even the field for adding paints and crayons. The stencils with paste were the next layer, they create texture and shapes to color around.

I finger painted with Pentart Acrylics to start building up some soft color. To get bolder with my color, I used Tim Holtz Distress Crayons applied with my fingertip. For easier blending, keep a damp cloth or baby wipe handy to moisten your finger.I concentrated darker colors around the ephemera and outlined them with Stampers Big Brush to give them dimension although they actually sit quite flat.

To finish this up, I stamped the title “Live, Laugh, Love” using the Simon Says Stamp Big Words stamp set with Jet Black Archival ink. I’ll add my journaling on the ephemera pieces with a Pitt Artist pen.
