Art Journal Style Cards with Shari Carroll
Welcome everyone!! I had this crazy thought of bringing Art Journaling to cardmaking by creating simple small pieces of art that I can give away. I also thought this would be a great way to show how you can try Art journaling on a smaller scale.
I pulled out my Tim Holtz layering stencils and some bright Tim Holtz Mini Distress inks and went to town creating my background.
I started by using coordinating colors like Mowed Lawn and Peacock Feathers in a small area of the stencil. I spritzed the ink with water and pressed the stencil onto a panel of Distress watercolor cardstock. I added several layers using different stencils and colors along the way.
As I worked on the vibrant piece and before cleaning the stencil off with each color, I pressed the stencil onto a second piece of watercolor cardstock with the remaining ink. This gave me a really interesting background and didn’t take much time at all!
I used a bit Dina Wakely and Dylusions washi tape over the stamped Tim Holtz Wildflowers, then finished off my cards by adding Tim Holtz Tiny Text Remnant Rub messages in both black and white. This is a super easy technique to try and every piece will be unique!!
I filmed a full process video of how I created these cards.. You can view the video below or on our YouTube channel HERE.

I love these cards, I have so many stencils from TH that I know now how to use them. Never thought to ink the back and place it on the cardstock. Thanks for sharing this technique.

Never thought to stack layers upon layers of stencils to get such an interesting effect. The second card makes such a nice bonus, too! When I’m not sure what I want to create but my fingers are itching to do something, this would be a great way to play and get busy making beautiful cards.
