Art Journal: Mini Spring!

Hi everyone! It’s Shari here with another Art Journal feature. I’ve done something a little different this month, I’m working in a much smaller scale. Todays page is 5 1/2″ by 8 1/2″ which is the size of an open card. I’ve been wanting to start a smaller journal where I can use my stamps and dies that were designed for card making.

It’s no secret that this has been the LONGEST winter…ever!!! Sooooo with that, my page shows the darkness of winter giving way to a hint of spring with some color!  This is also the first time I’ve used color card stock as my base… kinda fun!

I used letter stickers at the bottom… like a breaking news report.

And had so much fun watercoloring in these Paper Artsy flowers with my Inktense pencils!

I’ve shot a full process video, and have sped it up to fit it in to the time allowed. Enjoy!

Thanks for stopping by today on your week-end!!

  1. can’t see the video, it says it private!
great page though… fortunately after a very wet and stormy winter, spring is in full bloom quite early here in the south east uk.

  2. It really has been a long, cold and snowy winter and I love how your page depicts the hope of spring! It’s so creative, Shari – love it!

  3. Love this size journal page and think I would definitely make this. I have a ton (or there about) of colors in card stock from my vast collection and what a great way to use it. My friends and I will be getting together soon for a fun card making day and I will suggest starting a small journal the size of a card. Thanks for the video and the thoughts of spring! I hope the forecast for more snow is wrong for St. Patty’s Day in our area.

  4. What a great way to express your feelings about this long winter. I’m a midwest gal myself so I know exactly how you feel. Thanks for sharing with us.

  5. I am right there with you, Shari. I cannot wait for spring to get here, even if it brings a ton of pollen and allergies. Some warmth and melting snow would be worth it.

Thanks so much for sharing your creative process! The journal page looks wonderful, and I love how the flower panel on the right just pops. :)

  6. Beautiful as always. Love how you used watercolor pencils. Each night gets cooler here. We look forward to winter. But I do love spring after winter. Hope it warms up for you soon.

  7. WOW – this is BEAUTIFUL!!!
THANK YOU for sharing your tutorial – I have lots of products and techniques added to my “to-try” list :)

  8. Shari, you rock! Absolutely love this project. It would make a grand card! Love the monochromatic scheme with the pop of color. Fabulous use of stencils. I don’t own any yet, figuring out what my next “gift” could be. Cheers!

  9. Love this! Great use of the black on grey look! Could you use Modge Podge on this? Didn’t think you would be able to stamp over it…looks great! Going to experiment today!

  10. Love this Shari!! Your always such an inspiration with your creativity. Love the idea of doing a smaller scale art journal and using our card making supplies!! Genius as always!!

  11. Thanks for your ideas, Shari!! I always love your art journaling ideas. I am new to Art Journaling and am also often looking for ways to use my stamps. The Inktense pencils sound like something fun to try as well!

  12. Brilliant! Love the little breath of spring – wish we could see some hope of spring here in Ontario. We still have snow banks that tower over my head. Your work is always refreshing and inspiring, Shari. Love it!
