Art Journal Feature You Hold My Heart

Hi everyone! It’s Shari here with an art journal page. Before I get started, my first order of business today is to wish all the men folk out there a Happy Father’s Day!

I’ve created a super fun page today… more animated than I usually do. Take a peek. Bright and cheery right?

I’ve used my Dylusions Small Journal since my page is basically flat.  I had a blast with this one, building layers or papers… then adding in shading with Faber Castell Big Brush markers. I found my inspiration on Pinterest, but unfortunately I can’t find the person who created it to give them credit.

I used my stash of papers to create the trees, hills and background. Then I set a couple birds and a hand cut heart in the trees. I finished everything off with some slight doodling with a fine pen around the trees and hills to give them some definition.

I’ve shot a full process video for you, and as usual had to speed it up to fit it in the time allowed. Enjoy!

Before I go, I have a blog candy alert for you. Be sure to follow our blog via email and comment on this post for a chance to win a special blog candy!

I have used papers from my stash but have listed several for you below that would work great for this project. Hope you have a great day!

  1. Like everything about this page. I can see a card in there too! Love that you patchworked the sky too… great idea!

  2. Love it Shari! At SSCreate, you showed us your art journal book and how the different mediums go through to other pages. Have you tried using a couple pieces of wax paper as an insert to protect the other pages until they are dry? Cut to the size of your book and keep them in the pages where they will always be handy. Haven’t tried it myself but thought it may work.

  3. Shari – I think I could watch you create art journals all day! Darling pages. Thanks for sharing. I’m thinking of trying one – perhaps one a month for each of my grand daughters.

  4. Just beautiful Shari!! Pinned to my Pinterest for I just have to try this. Great video showing you’re technique. I have the die trees but never would think to cut out the tree and realizing it doesn’t have to be perfect, which is alot of my problem. Those Faber Castell Big Brush markers are just awesome. Will have to look into getting some. You showed me how they worked so great with the shading. I just wonder if you have to have the mat medium under these for them to work like this.
You have showed me so much in this video, thank you so much for making it.

  5. Great idea! I am in the process of making a Journal for my college roommate of 50+ years for her 70th birthday. Will use this idea. Can I substitute something for the brush pens (I don’t have any)?

  6. I love watching your creative process but wish I could read your mind to see why you do certain things!

  7. These pages are sweet and fun and it sounds like you had fun creating them great shading technique just love it!

  8. Your art journal is so much fun and I love watching each page develop! Thanks so much Shari!!!

  9. I love this page! Thanks for the video – I enjoyed watching the process. Quick question- any reason you used the collage glue stick for the trees and birds instead of continuing to use the multi matte medium?
