Art Journal Feature with Darkroom Door

StampTember-DarkroomDoor

Hi everyone and happy Saturday! It’s Shari here with a special art journal feature. Darkroom Door has created two stamp sets exclusively for Simon Says Stamp’s STAMPtember® event!

Love these stamps, so many possibilities! The one on the left is Warm Wishes and on the right is Enjoy The Journey. I’ve used a few stamps from each set for my art journal page today. I started with the flowers by clear embossing them on my background to create a resist.

I used some of the new Prima Arts Basic mediums to create some layers, and Dylusions sprays as paint. Once happy with my background, I stamped more of the Darkroom Door images with black ink over the top of all my treatments.

My Dylusins inks gave me a happy surprise, my brown turned out kind of purple when applied over the Crackle Paste. Delicious!!!

I shot a video of my process and this time I did it “live” since I used a lot of new product that needed some explanation. I’ve split it up in to two parts, Enjoy!

And on to Part 2.

I hope you like the voice format, if so, I’ll do more like this in the future.  Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. I’ve never done an art journal but Shari makes it look so beautiful and interesting. I really appreciate her videos and especially enjoyed the videos today.

  2. wow, great project, I love the new prima ranges I have been hoarding my epiphany but I think I may reconsideration after watching this! lol

  3. Wow I love how your page turned out! The colors are lovely! The whole page is gorgeous! Thank you for the wonderful video!

  4. Fabulous! I love your journal page videos. They are always so informative and give me a chance to look at how many of the new products work. Thanks Shari!

  5. The art journal turned out really pretty! Love that you are sharing the entire work process since I’m very new to mix-media. The stamp sets are gorgeous too. Thanks so much for sharing.

  6. Spectacular work, Shari! I love all of the sparkle that you achieved with the glass glitter and mica flakes. I’m not a big fan of lots of glitter, but this gave a classy bit of gleam to the overall project. I am curious though – did the mica pick up the colour or did it resist it? I really like the crackle effect of the polka dots – interesting texture. Loved the videos and the voice format. Even your whispering came through loud and clear.

    1. Hi Carol, the mica and glitter did not pick up the color, but the color bled underneath them. At some point, I blotted those areas with my paper towel to lighten the color a bit.

      Hope that helps!

      Shari

  7. That’s gorgeous! I hope one day to get that good. Right now I’m just a basic stamper and learning embossing! ;)
    Thanks for sharing!

  8. Okay, I knew I wanted these new mediums from Prima, but now I have to have them, especially the clear gesso and the crackle that you used. Your page is divine.

  9. Hi Shari,
This is an interesting project. Lots of wonderful texture and sparkle.
A wonderful mixed media project. The Prima, the crackle-so many
    great techniques!

  10. I have recently started Art Journaling. I appreciate you having this video online so I can learn more about different techniques. You’ve used some products of which I am not familiar so I will go through the list and see what I need. This is fun, fun, fun! Put me in the contest to win!

  11. I’m really enjoying watching your journal pages! The clear gesso looks very cool and it is great that it is now available. Love the stamps from Darkroom Door as well. Your moody garden background is perfect. Thank you.

  12. I appreciate you doing art journal videos-I would like to start doing this in the near future
(along with water coloring) and any help and inspiration I can get will do nicely, TFS!
