Fluid Acrylic Pouring: Mixed Medium with Shari Carroll

Mixed Medium with Shari Carroll

Hello everyone and Happy Saturday!! I have something for you today that I’m so excited to share. I’ve played around with the technique of Fluid Acrylic Pouring and am so excited to say that we now carry an Alchemy Starter kit from IndigoBlu!! You’re going to love this!!

So…what is Fluid Acrylic pouring? It is a form of painting where you mix your paints with a medium that thins them and allows them to flow, then you pour the paint mixture onto your canvas. It is really fun and addictive!! You never know what result you’ll get!

To start the process of doing a pour, you mix the paints with a pouring medium such as Go-Flow (which is included in the starter kit). The suggested ratio is 2:1 Go-Flow to paint. The mixture should be about the consistency of Honey. It should come off your mixing stick in an even stream.

The sample I created is using a “Dirty” pour. I added paints a little at a time into a cup. I placed the canvas panel over the opening of the cup and inverted them to where the cup was on top. After letting the paint settle for about 3-5 minutes, I lifted the cup and let the paint spread over the panel. Interesting right?? It is so rewarding!!

I love how some of the colors mix and some stay separated. I let the canvas dry for a couple days before adding a couple coats of IndigoBlu Acrylic Lacquer. Without a coating the paint will look dull. The lacquer gives the canvas a nice glossy finish and the colors of the paint come back to life.  Once the lacquer was completely dry, I used the panel to create my project.

I used Tim Holtz Small Tattered Florals along with Wildflower Thinlits dies to create the arrangement. To finish off my canvas, I added Believe from Simon Says Stamp and finally some Tim Holtz linen ribbon.

I have filmed a video of how to use the contents of the IndigoBlu Alchemy kit, you can watch the video below or on our YouTube channel HERE.
