Good morning! Heather Hoffman here this morning – and I’m thrilled to be guesting here on the Simon Says Stamp Blog with a couple cards I put together combining some adorable new Winnie and Walter images with some SSS Exclusive Dies and stamps!

For the first card I used Winnie and Walter’s new Welcome to the Family stamp set, colored with Copics, and fussy cut out. To create a fun background I used Simon Says Stamp Stacked Stars Die on a panel of white cardstock but with embossing pads so it didn’t cut entirely through, but just left a fun bit of texture. The sentiment for both cards is from SSS’s new Handlettered Encouragement stamp set, heat embossed in white on a strip of black cardstock die cut with SSS’s Basic Banners dies.

The second card uses another darling Winnie and Walter set – Big Hugs. Both of these sets were illustrated by Evelin T Designs – who I had the joy of meeting at Creativation this year in Phoenis, and is just as sweet as her illustrations! I paired this image with the SSS Stacked Hearts Die, also embossed on the white cardstock. For the ground of both cards I used my SSS A2 Card Curved Edge and some SSS Green Apple Cardstock to create a little hill for them to sit on. I used some varying shades of Warm Gray Copics to color in a shadow on the hilltop for both cards before adhering the images with foam adhesive. This helps “ground” the images a little, and make them look a bit more realistic where they sit!

Finishing touch was adding some May Arts Natural Twine on the banners before adhering them with foam adhesive, and then adding a bit of sparkle with some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Confetti Mix!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Have a wonderful day!

Listen To Your Heart: Mixed Medium with Shari Carroll

Mixed Medium with Shari Carroll

Welcome to the blog and happy Saturday!

I have a mixed medium piece that I’ve created for today that features the Tim Holtz Etcetera Thickboard Tag. This is a great shaped base that can withstand paints, collage, and heavy mediums.

Mixed Medium, Shari Carroll

I started off by adding texture to the base by using wrinkled tissue paper and cheesecloth. I love texture and it adds interest to even a white background. From there I built up my layers.

Mixed Medium, Shari Carroll

Adding the pieces that bring this design together are all inspired by my mom. I started with the Feathered Wings and it progressed from there. The beautiful Baroque frame fit perfectly on top of the wings, and the corrugated heart inside of that. The mini pocket watch holds her name “Joy”, the #3 token represents myself and my two sisters, and finally the paintbrush because my mom was an artist and painter.

Mixed Medium, Shari Carroll

I think creating from your heart is an amazing experience. Your creations will have special meaning as well as beauty.

I filmed the full process in two parts; you can view the videos below or on our YouTube Channel. Part One, Part Two.
