We thought this would be a great way for all of you to ‘stretch your creative muscles’ and share what you’ve been working on. So we’ll give you a little challenge each month, and you’ll have until the following month to share what you’ve made. Please limit entries to 3 per month.

Each month we’ll pick a few random participants to win a Simon Says Stamp grab bag!
The projects and cards that were shared for April were so great! We loved what you made, and we look forward to seeing what you make for this challenge.

Sunny Studio’s New Release for Summer!

Hi friends! Thanks for stopping by today, and please join me in a BIG welcome to Mendi Yoshikawa as a guest on our blog! Please read on for FOUR new gorgeous samples made to inspire you with what can be made with the newest Summer releases from Sunny Studio! Read on and enjoy!

Sunny Studio's New Release for Summer

Hello there! It’s Mendi here. I’m so happy to be sharing a set of fun cards with you today featuring Sunny Studio’s new release for summer!

Up first I have a card combining our newest layering stamps, Two Scoops and Perfect Popsicles. These are so fun to layer to create dozens of yummy flavors. After stamping them, I topped my frozen treats with a bit of glossy accents to give them some extra shine.

For my card’s border, I cut our new Stitched Scallop dies from white cardstock. I finished my card with a card panel inked up with picked raspberry distress ink and then used a sprinkles stamp from Two Scoops set to stamp along the outside edge to give my card the appearance of an overall background print.

Supplies:

For my next card I used the leftover negative portion from my stitched scallop dies to create the waves along the top of my little scene. These dies are fun in that they create a stitched edge on both sides of the cut line for extra design possibilities.

I then inked up the bottom portion of my panel with a blend of my favorite blue and aqua distress inks, misting it with water to give it a speckled appearance.

For my window, I used the Sunny Studio Stitched heart dies and then decorated my card front using our new Magical Mermaids and Oceans of Joy stamps.

I finished my inside by masking above the card fold and inked up the bottom with chipped sapphire distress ink and some subtle bubbles stamped from the same color. When everything was completely dry, I then heat embossed my sentiment with white embossing powder.

SUPPLIES:

As the more masculine match to our Magical Mermaid stamps we have a fun new set called Pirate Pals which I paired together with the Palm Tree and Island from our Island Getaway stamps to create my next card.

To form my frame, I cut out a ring of circles from gold metallic cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo to form the look of a pirate ship porthole. This could also be easily achieved using some basic circle dies. When I was done, I used a ruler with a paper piercer to add coordinating gold brads to finish the look. I cut two more solid circles from white cardstock, scoring the back one along the top and adding a little adhesive to form my card base.

Supplies:

For my last card of the day, I used a happy set called A Bird’s Life. I started by inking up an extra piece of white cardstock with tumbled glass distress ink and then die-cut four squares to form my grid design. I then colored my images with Copic Markers before cutting them out.

To form the scallop frame around my squares, I cut four borders from white cardstock and then mitered the corners and adhered them together to create one large square. A red card base was the perfect pop of color to complete my card.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little look at our newest collection and that I’ve inspired you in your summer card making. It’s always a pleasure being a guest here on the blog and hanging out with all of you. :)

Studio Monday with Nina-Marie: Multi-Level Stamp Layering

Hello crafters, it’s Nina-Marie here with you! Welcome to my latest Studio Monday video! This week is all about stamp layering and I am featuring Hero Arts’ Water Lilies stamp layering collection.

Studio Monday with Nina-Marie

Stamp layering involves stamping 2 or more images on top of each other to build up a detailed, dimensional-looking design. I love how easy stamp layering creates color, dimension and shading to an image; all without having to use any coloring mediums to achieve the look!

I made use of the MISTI stamping tool today to aid in the stamp layering, but you can definitely achieve the same results without the MISTI. For the ink colors I used Butter Bar, Soft Pink, Bubble Gum and Red Royal for the open water lilies. The closed water lilies are stamped in Butter Bar, Soft Apricot, Thistle, Passion Flower and Orchid. The lily pads are stamped in Lime Green, Green Apple and Pine.

Stamp layering is really awesome, but I wanted to step it up a notch and add even more dimension to these images! When doing all of my stamping, I created four of every image. This is because I wanted to create a more interesting effect by die cutting into the background panel.

I started by die cutting the final layout of my images into my background panel. I then inlaid one set of die cut images into the die cut areas and then popped up the second set on top of those inlaid pieces. The result adds a lot more dimension to the overall look of the card, instead of the images simply being popped up off of the background.

Speaking of the background; I used a Hero Arts wave stencil with some of their inks (Mint Julep, Aegean and Aquatic) and sponged the background to create the effect of water behind the lilies. I love how the blue green tones match so well with the water lilies!

For finishing touches, the sentiments are stamped with both the Water Lilies stamp set as well as the new Hero Arts You Are Loved sentiment set. I really love the encouraging theme of the You Are Loved set; there are so many sentiments in multiple font styles, which pretty much guarantees you’ll find something that works well with whatever kind of card you are making!

To help carry on the theme, I place some Pretty Pink Posh Clear Droplets along with dots of Glossy Accents in the “water” of my card. And finally added some sparkle on the flowers and lily pads with a Wink of Stella glitter pen.

I hope you will be checking out the video to see the multi-level stamp layering technique in action! Thanks so much for visiting me today… I’ll be back again next week with a new video to share with you!
