I’m so honored to be guest blogging for Simon Says Stamp today and I couldn’t be more excited that our newest release is now available at the Simon Says Stamp store!
These cards showcase the brand new “You Are” stamp set by our newest illustrator, Lisa Hetrick for Gina K. Designs. Lisa is a well known watercolor artist who creates beautiful home decor and gift items and we were lucky enough to turn some of her watercolor images and fabulous handwriting into a stamp set!
In today’s video, I will show you how to achieve a watercolored look using dye ink pads, Zig Clean Color markers, and the Mini Misti to create a lovely square card. I will also show you how to use a regular A2 envelope to create the perfect square envelope to match.

Altenew January 2018 Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Welcome everyone!! If you have come from Reiko Tsuchida‘s blog, you’re in the right place! It’s Shari carroll here to give you some inspiration using the new Altenew Peony Dream and Watercolor Stripes Cover dies.
I’ve been experimenting with ways of adding color to my cards and have found a really easy technique of fingerprinting with Dina Wakley Acrylic paints.
I die cut my pieces, added color with paints and stacked them back together with a bit of foam tape for dimension. The colors are fresh and tropical which warms me up in the middle of winter.
I’ve filmed a video showing the process of creating this card. You can view it below or on our YouTube channel HERE.

Doodling with Debby: Watercolored Echoing Mountains
Hi friends! Happy Wednesday! Welcome to the 1st edition of Doodling with Debby for 2018! I love the long skinny card design with the pretty watercolored mountain. Be sure to scroll on and watch the video for more information and enjoy!

Hi, it’s Debby here today with my monthly video feature for Simon Says Stamp, Doodling With Debby. I wanted to create a card inspired by two artists. Sha’an d’Anthes is on Instagram as furrylittlepeach. I love Sh’an’s style, and not long ago she created four watercolor pieces which were almost the same size as she is. The four pieces represented City, Forest, Desert and Sea and each had a pattern repeated from top to bottom. I combined inspiration from Sh’an’s beautiful watercolors with the tall skinny cards I always enjoy seeing Kristina Werner create.
The From The Rooftops stamp set from Simon Says Stamp is ingenious and I wanted to use the mountain trio and repeatedly stamp and white heat emboss it over a tall skinny panel. Firstly, I stamped the mountains three times in a pale ink on masking paper and trimmed them out. I knew I’d need a few masks to be able to repeatedly stamp the image without overlapping each other. I choose the hot pressed watercolour card as it’s smooth surface will give the optimum stamped impression.
I lined up the mountains along the bottom of the watercolor piece and stamped them in clear embossing ink. I stamped them twice to make sure I got a good impression, and then I sprinkled them with white embossing powder, tapped off any excess and melted the powder with a preheated heat tool. With the help of the masks, I repeatedly stamped and heat embossed the mountains from the base to almost the top of the panel. I did think about extending the stamping all the way to the top in line with my inspiration from Sh’an, but in the end, decided to include a small area of sky at the top.
I adhered the watercolor panel to a board to help prevent it warping while I watercolored. I mixed up a lovely bright green and starting at the base of the panel, I painted the full strength green mixture at the bottom of the mountains. I then rinsed my brush slightly and using the water on my brush blended out the color towards the top of the mountains and the more dilute the intensity was, the lighter the green. While the paint was still wet, I added Undersea Green directly into the base of the mountains. Being a deeper green, this added more of a contrast between the lightest and darkest areas. As the paint was still wet the new addition spread and blended with the base layer so there weren’t any harsh lines. To finish the watercolored panel, I splattered white gouache to represent snow.
For the sentiment, I stamped the speech bubble from the From The Rooftops set three times in clear embossing ink on black card and white heat embossed. I added three matching sentiments from the set, and again white heat embossed them before trimming the speech bubbles out. However, this set does come with matching dies.
I trimmed the watercolor panel to be three and a quarter wide by eight and three-quarters tall. I then foam mounted the panel on a three and a half by nine-inch card base cut from Neenah Desert Storm card in the 100lb weight. This card will then fit nicely in a business-sized envelope. I added the speech bubbles to the card with more foam adhesive and then accented with Neat & Tangled snowfall sequins which I adhered with Ranger Multi Medium Matte.
Thank you for joining me today, and I’ll see you next time for Doodling With Debby!
