Art Journaling: Field Notes with Shari Carroll
Welcome to the Blog everyone!! It’s Shari here with an art journal feature using Jane Davenport Collage papers and Vicki Bouton acrylic paints. This was the first time I tried these papers and I had a blast!! They are so colorful!!
I started the page out by tearing portions of the papers and gluing them down in my Dina Wakely Media journal using Clear Gesso. Have I ever mentioned that you can use Gesso to glue papers down? You can! I used it because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to use watercolors or acrylic paints afterwards. Watercolors need a better base to hold onto and gel mediums aren’t the best choice. I ended up using acrylic paints.
I used a bit of embossing paste with a Tim Holtz Dotted stencil to give it a bit of texture. I added my paints first by diluting them with water and ended up finger painting with them full strength. This gave me faded areas along with bright areas.
I used a piece of vellum to white embossed some butterflies from the Beautiful Day stamp set, I die cut them and glued them to the page.
I have filmed a full process video showing how this was created, you can view it below or on our YouTube channel HERE.
