You’re a Star

Hi readers! I’m happy to yet again be back with the lovely and oh so talented Debby Hughes, where she shows us two gorgeous examples of ways to stretch the Simon Says Stamp exclusives! I’m ready to dive in and check them out! How about you?

Enjoy!

Hi there! It’s Debby here and it’s time to take a fresh look at some of the New Release and really stretch those supplies and this time it’s all about the dies! First up is this little starfish, which started life as one of the flower dies from the new Summer Garden set! He’s die cut from Neenah solar white card and then colored with Copics and a few white enamel accents dots added for spiny nobbles. Of course, everything is better with a couple of wiggle eyes and a smile drawn on with a Copic multiliner. The sentiment is made from a combination of stamped ‘you’re a’ from the previously released Circle Friends set and some lightly water colored Kelly Purkey white letter stickers.

Talking of water coloring, and it’s quite appropriate as the Watercolor for Card Makers class from Online Card Classes is ongoing, this little starfish needed a watery home. I took some Tim Holtz watercolor card and liberally painted with water and then added in dilute layers of Distress Inks in Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Antique Linen. When dry the panel was then spritzed and splattered with perfect pearls, dotted with white enamel accents and clear rock candy Distress Stickles to try and give that seaside look. Finally the panel was added to a Fog card base – I’m so in love with this color!

Next up for a little die love is the We’re Expecting set. The stamp set has some cute as can be bird images with long legs in various lengths and of course there are matching dies. I layered three sets of long legs with medium legs turned them upside down and created a little fence to sit one of the birds from the set tweeting to the morning sunrise.

But I’m getting ahead of myself! Firstly I sponged inks in Cotton Candy, Soft Vanilla and Butter Bar through a mask cut with the Full Card Sunshine die to create the muted rays typical of the morning sun. The fence was then layered on top and the bird stamped in Memento tuxedo black on it’s matching die cut and colored with Copics. The sequins and little heart speech bubble give the impression the bird is singing to the dawn!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at stretching your supplies in creative ways! Until next time :)

  1. That starfish is adorable!! I really like the background. I’ve been trying to come up with an idea like this to use with some shell stamps I have. I’ll have to case it but I know it won’t look anywhere near as good as Debby’s.

  2. Debby is a genius! Her starfish and watercoloring really make this card special. Also love her “expecting” card with the cute little birdie on the fence.

  3. Love the cute little starfish! What a great idea to use a flower and that background is amazing.
