Yippee for Yana: Hot Foil with Coordinating Dies
Follow along as the fabulous Yana Smakula get us in the festive spirit with a gorgeous holiday card! Be sure to watch the video and enjoy!
Hi everyone, this is Yana Smakula and welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video!
Today I‘m going to show you how to use your old supplies, supplies you already have, and by this, I mean coordinating dies or regular dies, in a new and unique way with the help of Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil system.
Glimmer Hot Foil system is basically an add-on to your die cutting machine that lets you add foiled effects to your handmade projects with the help of metal – etched dies or hot foil plates. This is not like MINC machine or a Laminator, this is a completely different technology.
I started to work on my card by using coordinating dies to hot foil the die outline. I am using dies to die-cut my images out, instead, I’m using them to foil with. Imagine foiling with all of the coordinating dies or regular dies you have in your stash? There’s a world of options here!
Next, I removed the overfilling with the help of sanding eraser. Overfilling happens when you apply too much pressure and this is why with the etched dies it’s important to test how many shims you need to add to get the best possible foil transfer. Anytime I have overfilling happening I just use my sanding eraser to erase that extra foil – and it works like a charm!
Next, I used my coordinating stamps and stamped a sentiment inside the foiled message. This is like a whole new way to make cards – usually, we use coordinating dies after we stamp, but here I’m doing the opposite – using stamps as the last step.
I trimmed my panel down slightly and foam mounted onto an A2 white side folding card base. I also stamped, colored and cut out 3 holly leave clusters from Merry & Bright stamp set and I’ve also added a bunch of jewels from Pretty Pink Posh to dress this card up.
Once everything has adhered our card is ready to be popped in the mail or hand delivered to the recipient!
Have fun stamping!

This new foiling system is pretty cool, using what you have instead of buying more is a plus. I already follow by email.

Just darling.
This card is elegant and beautiful in its graceful simplicity.
I don’t really get what the point of the hot foil machine was on your card. I liked the card, but couldn’t you just have embossed the stamping?

Interesting idea using your dies to foil, but I’m not really into buying another machine.
