Will You Please Send a Card to Someone Who Needs Sunshine?

Greetings crafty friends!

My name is Lauren Semple and I am on the team in our home office at Simon Says Stamp.  I spend much of my time scouting new products and making sure we are stocked with what you are looking for.

I am asking for your help. The thing I love most about our crafting community is that when one of us is down, we all come together! Right now there is a need to help someone who experienced an unfortunate circumstance.

Last weekend my cousin Sandy was walking out of a store to her car after some light shopping. Making sure to stay out of the middle of the lane between parked cars, she walked close to the cars on the left side of the lane.

Then an SUV turned wide around the row of cars to her right while probably looking for a parking space.  To Sandy’s surprise, the driver struck her with the front driver’s side quarter of the car and knocked her down to a sitting position. As the driver did not see Sandy on the ground, she kept driving and ran over her lower legs with the front tire of the car.

The driver still did not notice what she was doing, but others did. The people in the parking lot started to scream at the driver to STOP! Waving their hands and doing anything to get the drivers attention.

It worked and the SUV stopped right before running Sandy’s legs over again with her back tire.

Thanks to the many people who stopped to help, the store’s staff, the Ambulance and the Police Sandy was taken to the hospital very quickly.

Once at the hospital she was taken in for surgery right away to stabilize her legs with an Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon. After having several tests, X-rays, and Scans performed, Sandy was told that she had two broken fibulas, a shattered tibia, and a broken ankle.

Sandy’s first surgery went very well and the doctors are optimistic that she will recover from this! However, she has a very long road of recovery ahead of her and will be in the hospital for quite some time.

Sandy is a teacher and a crafter. She has a huge heart and never hesitates to help others however she can. She is also a rock in my family and holds us all together. That is why I am reaching out. Her journey to get back to normal is going to be a very long hard one. I want to flood her hospital room with good wishes, prayers, and happy thoughts from this amazing crafty community she is a part of. That way we can all keep encouraging her to be strong as she faces the many challenges ahead.

If you have handmade cards you’d like to donate to help send her good wishes, please mail to:

  11. Hi , I am Lauren’s cousin Sandy . She just came to visit me and with her came a large box. She went on to tell me of the call for cards from the crafting community . I opened the box and was totally blown away by the number of cards . I cannot thank all of you enough . My recovery from this terrible accident has been full of the evidence of God’s love . Each card or text from a friend or a stranger has given me strength to stay positive . Your joint expression of love is amazing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart .

    Love ,
    Sandy , Lauren’s cousin
