Studio Monday with Nina-Marie: Multi-Color Foiled Birthday Card

Hello there, friends! If you live in the US, I hope your 4th of July was safe and wonderful. I was inspired by the patriotic colors for the 4th to create this sparkly birthday card with some of our Simon branded products!

I used our gorgeous Fading Stars stencil to apply Transfer Gel Duo onto my slimline card. I love this paste because it can be used with or without a laminator. It has a tacky finish, which means it will stick to the foil, and with a bit of pressure, you can transfer the foil onto the paste without needing to add heat from a laminator.

Once the paste dried, I used one of my favorite foiling techniques – multi-colored foiling – to create this “star-spangled banner” effect across the card. The foils I used were from Gina K. Designs.

The card is finished up with a happy birthday greeting that I made with our Simon Chunky Happy die and some birthday sentiment strips. A few sequins and star confetti pieces added just a touch more sparkle to complete this festive card!

Multi-color foil is such a fun technique that adds a create “wow” factor to your project. Be sure to watch the video to see how I did it!

  1. Oh Nina, this is so beautiful. I finally just got the GK transfer gel a few months ago and now there is a duo? Oh dear…. I cannot keep up! ?
    Beautiful card!

  2. Nina this is gorgeous… I have the glimmer system but didn’t know about the thermo-web foils. They worked so well with the transfer gel. I could use loads of my dies with this technique. Love it and that card is too cool!!!

  3. Beautiful card!! Thanks for all the great ideas!!! I have Deco foil out the wazoo!!!! lol

  4. Delightful!. Have the duo gel and a variety of foils so I’ll be giving this a try soon. Thanks for sharing the card and tutorial–a good refresher before I pull out these products!

  5. I love this card! That’s a great way to use up little pieces of foil that you have. I know that one of the crafters said never to throw away even the smallest pieces and that is a great way to use them. That would be pretty with the cascading hearts stencil, also. Thank you, Nina-Marie.

  6. Thanks for the inspiration! I love this for a Birthday card, I have a veteran friend’ who’s Birthday is coming up, he would love it!

  7. Hi, Nina – This is FANTASTIC! Thank you so, so much for showing foiling that does not involve buying another $100 machine to perform that action. I have a laminator and a die cut machine and not enough time for crafting, so spending for a foiling system does not appeal. I love the foiling paper you chose from @GinaKDesigns (love Gina!) — especially the blue — and I have never thought of using it for die cutting by just sticking it to cardstock and then die cutting it. Insert emoji of person smacking herself on the forehead here, right!!?! Wow! Love your design and it was easy! I think I could do this!

  8. I am the first person to stand up & say I do not like foiling on cards usually. I seem to see designs that were nice attacked by gold foil. But you have definetly won me over with this card design. The colours were so pretty, it wasn’t OTT & no expensive machine needed. Thank you for sharing this video x
