One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

Hi friends! Happy Thursday! We’re back with another edition in the popular series, One Stamp, Five Ways! Read on to learn about how Suzy Plantamura made these fun and festive cuties along with some BONUS inspiration! Enjoy!

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

Hello, Simon Says Stamp friends! Today I have a “One Stamp, Five Ways” post to share with you using a stamp set that I absolutely love. Making these cards was so much fun! This stamp set is one that everyone needs in their “arsenal” as it is so perfect for birthday cards of every type. I had so much fun, I made 6 cards with it and also have 2 more to share that I had made with this set previously. So let’s get started!

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

I think we would all be delighted to have someone turn 80 in our lives! Considering I’ve lost my father and my mother is 85, I may have to save this one for some time! This background was made with stripes of watercolor on this blog post here about making backgrounds ahead of time if you want to see more about the process.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

I used the PPP Stitched Hexagon die for this shaker card. I inserted several PPP sequins and jewels inside the shaker window. I stamped all of the images on white cardstock with a light color of ink and colored them in with colored pencils. I colored the Happy Birthday dies with Copic Markers to match. I layered all of the images over the shaker window and the Happy Birthday sentiment at the bottom of the card.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

This card has a similar look to the last one and I could have made it into a shaker card as well with this Window Frames die. I made the background on the same blog post referred to above about making backgrounds ahead of time. I used the SSS Medium Dots Stencil and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide Ink.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

I stamped all of the images on white cardstock with a light color of ink and colored them in with colored pencils. I used a fine tip black marker to outline them (sometimes I like this doodled look better than the black outlines you get with stamping them in black). I stamped the sentiment in the stamp set with white embossing powder on a blue cardstock banner. I layered all of the stamped images over the window frame die and used some Sea Glass Jewels around the images.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

This background was made by watercoloring a piece of Ranger watercolor paper with Daniel Smith watercolors. I used a wet on wet technique, dropping in several colors of paint. I die-cut the piece with the largest size Lawn Fawn stitched rectangle. I used the SSS Repeating Circles die inside this piece. You can’t see the 6 circles, but they are under the cupcakes. It gave me a good way to space them accurately.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

I stamped the cupcakes on white cardstock with a light color of ink. Have you seen a pattern here yet that I don’t like black outlines on my stamped images? I colored them all in with colored pencils. I used Kaisercraft Glitter Pens over the spots on the cupcakes. I attached the six cupcakes with foam tape behind them over the openings on the background. I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set using SSS Intense Black Ink on a Honeybee Sentiment Banner Die.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

This is my favorite card from the six and might actually be one of my favorite cards I’ve ever made. I’m excited to give it to my grand-daughter when she turns 4 in March. I used my Picture Book dies for the first time as they coordinate so well with these large number stamps. I die-cut all three out of white cardstock and then colored them in with Copic Markers. I attached them to a piece of white scrap paper so they were all in one piece and then cut it out around the images.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

I made the background using the SSS Poinsettia’s Cling Stamp I just love this design for birthday cards! I used white embossing powder and then painted over it with Daniel Smith watercolors. I attached a white die-cut rectangle over the top of the card and placed my three Storybook dies over it. I stamped the number 4 from the Birthday Number stamp set with a light color of ink and colored it in with colored pencils. I attached that above the dies. I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set on a stitched banner with Intense Black Ink and attached that to the bottom of the card.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

This is my usual random stamping card. I love doing these as they are like puzzles. It is really important to use a Misti stamping tool when doing this technique as it makes it much faster! I used white embossing powder over Ranger watercolor paper. I then painted the images with Daniel Smith watercolors. I used a wet on wet wash of all of the colors mixed for the background.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

I stamped the number 1 on white cardstock with a light color of ink and colored it in with colored pencils. I attached that over the bottom of the card. I stamped the sentiment on a Honeybee banner die with Intense Black Ink. I added some PPP jewels in Marigold and Sea Glass.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

I made a card using one of the large picture die animals a few weeks ago and realized these Birthday Numbers fit perfectly in the animals’ hands, so I wanted to try another one. This time I used the large Lion die. I die-cut him out of white cardstock and colored him in with Copic markers. I added shading and details with colored pencils. I used little eye-balls over his eyes.

One Stamp, Five Ways: Birthday Numbers!

I made the background ahead of time on that same blog post mentioned before. This time I used Texture Paste colored with Spun Sugar Distress Oxide Ink over the SSS Tiny Circle die. I stamped the sentiment with black ink on the bottom of the Lion’s body and then attached him over the background. I stamped the number 8 on white cardstock with a light color of ink and colored it in with colored pencils. I placed that in his hands. I added some PPP Sparkling Clear and Orchid Sequins around his body.

I made these two cards when some of these dies were released a few weeks ago as part of Die-cember.

  2. All of these cards are so fun and adorable. I love shaker cards so my favorite of course is the “80 birthday”. I also love the large number stamp and dies. Thanks for showing all the great techniques.

  3. Thanks for the inspiration. I have a hard time creating Birthday cards for adult male relatives and your 28 and 80 cards has given some fresh ideas. Awesome designs!!!

  4. These cards are all so adorable and beautifully coloured! I especially love the animal cards! Gorgeous work, Suzy!

  5. What a great assortment of cards you made! So colourful & celebratory, each one. I am seriously thinking how much those Number Dies & Stamps would be so good to have. Thanks for all the ideas.

  6. I purchased this set with my five grandchildren in mind, and you’ve made me very glad I did! Thanks for the inspiration!

  7. All of these cards are fabulous and colored so beautifully.

It is nice to be able to have an 80 or any year older in the family. It’s not fun being in the club of they’re all gone now. We are now the oldest generation and it’s hard to think about that. It’s like we turned around and everyone was gone.

Let me get back to the beautiful cards. They really are wonderful.

  8. Wonderful cards! Your coloring/painting is awesome! I do like that softer look you get not stamping in black, but I think it has been my go-to. Time to rethink that! Thank you!

  9. Fun cards. Sometimes I get stuck on one layout from a stamp set, it’s good to get new ideas. I already follow by email.

  10. I always love Suzy’s colorful coloring!! The vibrant and delicious colors on these cards make me smile. I particularly love the cupcakes. Yum!!!

  11. Oh my goodness Suzy these are ALL fantastic! Oh, how I love the pastel colours you used on these, they look amazing. I really love these number stamps, I have been wanting them for a while now. What great ideas! TFS!

  12. Loved all of these cards. Where can I find the blog post about making backgrounds ahead of time? I’d love to see it.

  13. Wonderful variety of cards – I love the cupcakes card, and love that you used the poinsettia background for one of the cards. It is a wonderful design and I love seeing it used in projects beyond the holidays!

  14. Wow Suzy what a great birthday cards. Love what you did with the numbers, they are so versatile. You inspire me to work more with my numbers, thank you so much for showing.
    Have a great weekend.

  15. I think this is my FAVORITE SSS feature! I love the creativity and talent that shines in how you demonstrate different ways to use a stamp set; you are so gifted!! I don’t think many designers could make so *many* WONDERFUL cards with one set (as opposed to one standout card and a couple so-so ones ;)).

  16. I absolutely love these cards! I tried to find the blog you referenced about make ahead backgrounds and couldn’t find it. I would love it if you could provide a way to find it or supply a link. These are Thebes’s birthday cards I have seen on any blog! Thank you so much for sharing.

  17. These are all just too stinkin’ cute, Suzy! I’ve been thinking it would be nice to get a number set, and this might need to be the one! Thanks for sharing all your fun ideas. They are always a delight.
