One Stamp Five Ways: Beach Beauties

Hi friends! Happy Wednesday, and happy almost JULY?! WOW!! I cannot even believe it!! Please join me in welcoming back the super talented Suzy Plantamura with a very season appropriate addition of One Stamp Five Ways! Read on to learn more and enjoy!

Hello everyone! I can’t believe today I have a summer post to share with you. Summer is here! And it’s going to be a mask free summer – good times are rollin’! Today I picked a stamp set from the latest Rainbows release called Beach Beauties for my “one stamp, five ways” post. Above is an image of my 5 cards and I’ll be sharing all the details of how I made each below.

I always enjoy using a stamp set to create random stamped backgrounds for cards. I decided to use the big umbrella stamp for this technique this time. I stamped it several times with a light color of ink for no-line coloring. I used Copic markers to color in the umbrellas with four bright colors keeping them all consistent.

I used the Lawn Fawn Just Stitching Rectangle die to add a design to the outside edge of the card front and attached it to a white card base. I used a stitched rectangle for the sentiment embossing it with Ranger Carnation Red embossing powder. I attached it with foam tape and added some Nuvo drops around it. I also used white glossy Nuvo drops in the center of the umbrellas.

I was so excited to try out the new Sea and Sky cling stamp for one of my card backgrounds! I used Ranger Watercolor Paper and Distress Oxide Inks with it. I stamped the ground first using Antique Linen Oxide Ink stamping it several times so it was a thick coat. I then stamped the water portion of the stamp using Mermaid Lagoon Oxide Ink and again stamped it a couple times. I used a paint brush over the sand area to mix the color mixing in a little Vintage Photo Oxide Ink with my wet paint brush to add some color variation. I covered the water area with the water portion of the stamp and flicked some brown watercolor paint and white acrylic paint drops all over it. I used several blue/aqua Oxide Inks to paint inside the edges of the water area. After the sand was dry, I covered it with the sand stamp and flicked a bunch of blue and aqua and white paint over the water. This background turned out so fun, I hated covering any of it up. I will definitely use this stamp again as it is such a great concept to separate the background areas so you can use different colors of ink!

I stamped several of the images from the Beach Beauties stamp set with Intense Black Ink and colored them in with Copic markers. I used a white Uniball Gel Pen to adds dots to the umbrella and bathing suit. I die-cut the images out and arranged several over the background. I used foam tape behind the lower part of the umbrella and the girls’ heads for dimension. I stamped the small sentiment with black ink and embossed the larger one with Ranger Forget-Me-Not embossing powder. I used some Caribbean Sea Jewel Nuvo drops and White Glossy Nuvo drops around the water. I also use the white ones in the center of the umbrella and Rosewater Jewell drops over the girls’ cheeks.

I made a bunch of card backgrounds with my new Gel Press recently and I thought this blue one looked perfect as water. I rubbed Mermaid Lagoon and Salty Ocean ink pads over the gel press and then rubbed them together and smoothed them with a brayer. I pressed a piece of paper over the gel press to pick up the ink. I can usually get three prints from each inking of the gel press. I believe this was my second print, so it is kind of light and textured. I cut it to fit on the front of a mini-slimline card base (3.25” x 6.25”).

I stamped the towel and girl with black ink on white cardstock and colored them in with Copic markers. I die-cut the images out and attached them to the center of the card. I used foam tape behind the girl to give her dimension. I wanted the towel to look like a floatie, so I hope no one notices it is a towel! I used the “Don’t Worry, Beach Happy” stamp above and below the stamped images with white embossing powder. I loved the song “Don’t Worry Be Happy” so much when I was young, so this is the perfect sentiment for me! I added some Caribbean Sea Jewel Nuvo Drops around the water.

This slimline card is my favorite of the five cards and the first one I made. I stamped all of the images with MFT Natural Ink and colored them in with colored pencils. I used a strange mix of colors (no idea why) including jade greens, magenta purple/pinks, and butter yellows. I had so much fun coloring these stamps with pencils as I was able to add texture to the towel and other items (especially loved coloring the hair on the girls!).

To make the background, I cut a piece of masking paper with a curvy line and then used the piece above my line and the piece below my line to cover the sky and the sand while I inked the other area. I used Distress Oxide Inks again including Antique Linen for the sand and Salvaged Patina for the sky. I flicked some darker shades of watercolor paint and white acrylic paint over both areas using the masking paper to block the other area.

I attached the stamped images over the background using foam tape behind many of them to create dimension. I used white glossy Nuvo drops around the sky and embossed the sentiment from the stamp set with white embossing powder. I used yellow Nuvo drops over the center of the flip flops.

To make the background of this card, I die-cut a circle using one of the Thin Frame Circle Dies from the top of a white card stock card front. I then used Shimmer Powder to paint the background with Blue Blitz for the sky and Falling Leaves for the ground. I attached those two pieces behind the circle for my beach scene. I always have scraps of pre-painted cardstock using Shimmer Powder and other watercolors that I can just pull out and use when I am creating a card like this. Makes it much easier!

For this card, I used the girl from the Beach Beauties stamp set and several images from the Seas and Greetings Stamp set. I stamped them all with MFT Natural Ink and colored them in with colored pencils. I die-cut them all out and attached them over the background circle. I embossed the sentiment with Sunflower Embossing Powder on the bottom of the card. I used some bright pink Nuvo drops around the sentiment and I also used Nuvo drops to add dots to the umbrella.

I really love this stamp set as I live near the beach and am absolutely obsessed with it. I love to go sea glass hunting, so I added (showed off) some of my treasures in these photos. This is my favorite hobby besides creating cards and I have quite a big collection! I hope you enjoyed this “one stamp, five ways” post and that it inspired you to pull out some of your stamp sets and come up with more ideas to use them. I love doing these posts as they are always a challenge for me, but they push me to think outside the box and learn new techniques and ideas. Thanks so much for visiting today! Suzy
