Night Scene Missing You Shaker Card featuring our July 2025 Card Kit!

Hi friends! Happy Sunday! I’m delighted to welcome back special guest Heather Hoffman to our blog showcasing a brand new card idea with our July 2025 card kit! Be sure to read on to learn more and enjoy!

Hello crafty friends! I am just in love with the newest card kit from Simon Says Stamp. I recently
went on a trip to Europe, and we stayed in Airbnb’s along the way. There was something so fun
about waking up to look out all the amazing windows and see what was waiting outside for us.
The focus on windows in this kit is inspiring me so much!

The card I’m sharing features a lot of tiny touches that all contribute to the building of the scene.
While you might not notice each one individually, all together, they add up to create a cohesive
finished product! I mostly focused on the stamp set from the kit, and played with using colored
inks creatively.

I started off by stamping the window from the Through the Window stamp set on a panel of
white cardstock with Nocturne ink, then heat embossing with clear ink. Next, I used a craft knife
and ruler
to very carefully cut out just the inside of the window. You could also mask and do your
stamping and inking that way, but I wanted to create a shaker window, so it was worth the extra
work! I also blended a bit of Buttercream ink around the window, to create a bit of a warm glow –
this helps mimic the effect of the warm light from a sunset flooding into the room!

I stamped my sentiments under the window, using my MISTI and a mix of Citrine and Sherbet
inks for the large sentiment, and Twilight for the secondary sentiment – masking that one off and
stamping in two parts to split the sentiment up into two parts to better fit my card design. You
could also cut your stamp apart if you prefer, but masking is pretty easy if you want to keep it in
one piece. Once the sentiments were done, I backed the window with acetate and foam
adhesive to prepare it for creating my shaker.

For the inside of the window, I trimmed down a piece of white cardstock to be a bit larger than
the window opening, and stamped the city skyline in the same black ink, and also heat
embossed it with clear powder. Then I blended a gradient of Citrine, Sherbet, and Twilight inks
to create a sunset fading into night look. Finally, I added some of the included Stellar
Embellishment mix to fill the shaker for some sparkly stars in the night sky.

Finally, I mounted that entire panel on to a cardbase created with Cream cardstock, and added
some sparkly glitter around just the window frame using Nuvo glitter drops in Blizzard to help it
pop just a bit extra.

Do you like to create shaker cards? Or keep your cards more simple and one layer?

  1. Dear HH and SSS – This is beautiful! I am glad you mentioned that it was a shaker b/c at the first 2-3 glances, I thought the stars at the top were fixed. I did not realize it was a shaker. GREAT colors!!

  2. I love how you tied your travel memories into the design—it really adds a layer of emotion to the card. The warm glow around the window is such a clever touch to capture that cozy, end-of-day feeling.

  3. This card kit sounds absolutely lovely! I completely understand the window inspiration. There’s something so captivating about framing a scene, capturing a specific moment in time. It reminds me of how much fun I have finding the perfect angle in driving games too! Almost like meticulously adjusting the camera settings in a game like Drift Hunters to get that perfect shot of a car in action. I can definitely see how that translates to creating beautiful cards with layered windows. Enjoy creating with this kit!
