Monthly Mail Art – April 2017

Monthly Mail Art - April 2017

Hello all! Kristina here. I’m back with another installment of Monthly Mail Art. :)

This time I decided to do a bit of stamping in a light ink (Antique Linen Distress Ink) and do some no-line watercoloring. Because I planned to watercolor, I used a 90 lb. watercolor paper for the envelope. I made the envelope using the We R Memory Keepers 1-2-3 Punch Board and then stamped images from the Some Bunny Special stamp set.

Monthly Mail Art, No-Line watercoloring

I watercolored the fun scene using Kuretake Zig Gansai Tambi watercolors. The address was written in a black brush script pen from Nuvo and a Pilot Envelope Addressing pen.

To protect the envelope, I buffed some Distress Micro Glaze over the envelope. This seals the painting and protects it from moisture.

I hope you love this month’s envelope! :)

NOTE: Recipients address used with permission. Thanks, Diana!

Supplies

  1. Just lovely. Thanks for sharing.
You have encouraged me to look at calligraphy again. I am wondering, if you don’t put the glaze, what will happen to the art in the mail and is there anything besides the glaze that can be used? Thanks..

    1. Watercolor can be reactivated a bit when wet, and the Nuvo brush pens are not waterproof, so the painting and part of the black writing would bleed or smudge. The Pilot Envelope Addressing pen is waterproof, so that part would be okay, but if the envelope were to get wet the rest of the envelope might not fare as well. The Micro Glaze seals it off and prevents moisture from ruining things. I’m not sure of an alternative, however I have heard that rubbing a candle over the surface creates a waxy barrier and that might help (use a white or clear candle, obviously).

  2. Wow, Kristina this envelope is gorgeous. I don’t think the recipient will be throwing this out once they receive the card:)

  3. I so look forward to your Mail Art posts. They are always so vibrant and adorable. Please keep them coming! I adore them!

  4. I adore Kristina’s art so much, even if I’m not good in hand lettering. I would love to receive such a colorful envelope in my mailbox.

  5. This envelope is darling. I would love to get one of those. I will have to do this. Thanks. I do enjoy your videos very much.

  6. Very cute envelope. I could never write that pretty. It would be nice to receive it in the mail…

  7. Oh, I just love this envelope. How clever and special and will make someone have a happy day when they go to the mailbox. Thanks for sharing.
