Mixed Medium: Acrylic Pour Art Journal with Shari Carroll

Mixed Medium with Shari Carroll

Happy Saturday everyone! It’s Shari here with a fun Art Journal page idea. I’ve been playing around with Acrylic Pouring in some of my more recent Mixed Medium projects and wanted to incorporate this technique into Art Journaling.

Dina Wakley Ranger recently came out with a line of Acrylic Pouring products that include Pouring Medium, Cell CreatorCups and Spoons, and Small Bottles. These new products work beautifully with her paints and Media Board. The Media board is what brings me to Art Journaling. This substrate is perfect for pouring and journaling!! YAH!!

The first thing I did was to mix four colors of paint with the pouring medium. The ratio is 3 parts medium to 1 part Dina Wakley paint. I added a couple drops of Cell Creator to my paint mixtures and created puddles onto the Media Board and tilted it around a bit until the paint covered the board completely.

Once the paint was completely dry, I stamped some designs onto Dina Wakley Collage Paper and added them to the background with Matte Gel Medium.

I added a few strips of Dylusions Washi tape here and there on my background for added color.

I’ve filmed a video showing you how to use the Dina Wakley Paint Pouring products as well as how to create this project. You can view it below or on our YouTube channel HERE.

  1. I love the colors and am happy to see pouring on a small scale. I want to try pouring on an A2 size. How long did it take for these to dry?

  2. wowww….simply AMAZING!!!! I always love to watch paint pouring techniques but this one is especially gorgeous. the four shades are sweet and the way they spread over the canvas to create those beautiful patterns. that’s a treat to the eyes! love how the collage paper was beautifully integrated there. no need to color in to those flowers as the background already pops in. also these paints work with archival inks, gel medium. that’s great!

  3. I’ve never tried this, but after seeing a huge canvas pouring at JoAnn, I think I love it. I hadn’t even considered a smaller canvas…or two, but this is way cool! TFS!

  4. Very cool! I’ve only seen Acrylic Pour done on larger surfaces and I didn’t want to do that. I was so glad to see this done here on smaller more manageable size. This has definitely inspired me to give this technique a try. Thanks for sharing and the inspiration.

  5. Awesome Shari, love the colours and I almost want to say that only the paint pouring canvas has a sixties look but then with the stamps and other things on top of it it has a modern twist. Stunning page, thank you for showing!
